I need the stock on my Scout Rifle shortened about half an inch. Can a synthetic stock be cut down like a wood one or would I need to replace my one inch buttpad with a half incher? Thanks.

Synthetic stocks are ok until it comes time to shorten one. Most that I've seen have the butt plate or recoil pad recessed and fit to the inner periphery of the stock.
Also there are only 2 screw holes that are molded into the stock.

I have taken 1/2" off them and refit the pad..Thing is the screws. You have to be real careful to make sure you can get them to line up if you cut 1/2" off the stock.

I think the best way is to make a butt plate to fit. That way the very limited areas for screws can be used...( You install the holes in the plate BEFORE you fit it).
