Had to run my route today. Stopped by the hog trap on the way home because I'd not run it Friday and I was feeling guilty. Nothing in the trap, so moved on. Walking back to the truck, I saw movement in a mott of scrub oak. I drew my Taurus 3" 66 I was carrying and squatted down and looked into a break in the brush and this boar was staring at me, face to face at about 15 yards. I laid the sight right on his head just above the eyes and fired. The pressure wave from the Speer 140 grain JHP blew his right eyeball out of its socket, was pretty impressive. He fell DRT of course. Went back to the van, had the bike on the back, rode down and rapped him up in plastic and drug him out. Took him over to son-in-law's and we skinned him. I've got him on ice now, will butcher in the morning. He's only 80 lbs, a little boar. He had a decent set of tusks growing on him. We trapped a couple a while back that only went 45 lbs and I still have pork left from one of those, though not much. I've moved the trap, too, to a better location (I think). It's by a well traveled trail. But, if you can't trap 'em, shoot 'em. LOL!
