I was at the range and a guy asked me if I wanted to shoot his AR. Of course, my answer was yes. I had never shot one before. So I want to say thank you to that guy, and thank you to anyone else who is willing to let a relatively new shooter try his or her guns.

I know it can be hard to see your baby in someone else's arms.

I'll be getting my own as soon as I can afford it.

Return the favor some day.

I've met lots of great people at the range and have gotten to shoot lots of cool guns, I have offered mine as well. Most shooters I meet are good folks.

Stay safe.

Joe

I usually offer to let whoever is at the range a chance to run a few rounds through my guns. Lot's of fun.

Sometimes it can be a curse. I am still "mad" at the SOB who let me shoot his suppressed pistol! Like I needed more stuff to spend my money on. I started with 22, but I'll be getting a 9mm and 45 cal before long. Next time, just keep your stupid toys to yourself!

I keep an eye out and occasionally offer to let folks shoot my rifles - if they seem responsible.

When I was a senior in high school, my friend let me shoot his brother's AR-15. Massive fun. That was in 1992. The bug bite hasn't healed yet!

I found that letting some one shoot my guns particularly my "assault weapons" is not only a good way to introduce people to those rifles but a great way to break the ice and meet new people with something in common with.

Vermont, Glad that you like the AR15. Same thing happened to me.. Friend/Brother offered to let me shoot his AR15, that he purchased with some other firearms from his pops years back.

I had a big smile on my face and said "I need one" . Now I have more then one.lol

I also want to get a M1A. But, that will take awhile before that happens. (Yawn) anyways welcome to the Club!

When I go to the range, I usually take 8-12 guns. I'm only interested in shooting a couple of them. Mostly it's for folks who don't get the opportunity to play with some of the unique stuff I've managed to acquire.

Half the fun of going shooting is watching someone else grin as they get enjoyment from one of your toys.

Met a guy at a range who let me shoot his AR15 as well. I gave him 3 rounds of the mosin and he turned to me and smiled. He was even more suprised when he found out i got it for a hundred bucks.

Those AR owners really are a friendly lot!

Same thing happened to me, I was shooting my Mini 14 and the guy in the lane next to me was shooting a Rock River flat top AR with open sights. I asked a couple of dumb questions and the next thing you know I was shooting his gun with his ammo! He wouldn't even take a handfull of my commercial loads as repayment, and he was too busy helping other shooters to mess with my NRA Mini. I did give him all my brass though.

So what did I do... I went out and bought a brand new 20” Bushmaster A3 this morning...

Somebody hasn't been to AR15.com:eek:

Most gun owners I've run into are very kind, and will let you shoot their guns. I like to let people shoot them if they ask, it might help change some minds.

And of course, sharing is the golden rule:D

I have an AR again, after giving mine to my nephew, because a guy at the range let me shoot his and I said to myself, I've got to get another one of these.

Met a new guy at the range a couple of weeks ago. We shot each others .45's, shot the bull, had a good time. He was asking about .357's and what to get. My answer. Lets meet here next weekend and I'll bring 5 for you to try. He really appreciated it. When he asked what he could do, I just told him to pass it on some day. (5!, I have too many. I'm not even that fond of .357's. I tried em by buying them. Probaby sell a couple before it's over.)(Lets see, 4" 19 has to stay, 2 1/2" 686 has to stay, 4" GP-100 has to stay, well S***, now I remember why I still have 5!) :)

Oh yeah, Its always good to let (intelligent and nice) others shoot your guns, Thats how I shot a .50BMG rifle, So I usually return the favor to other cool people at the range if they take interest in something Im shooting that particular day, usually people Freak out when I bring my 500S&W or my .454Casull Revolvers and sometimes theres 1 person brave enough to want to pull the trigger.

I think this thread illustrates something that is unique to the gun community.

Case in point:

My friends were at the range, two of them had gotten new milsurps and they were trying them out. An older black guy comes over and insists they shoot some of his stuff.

His stuff included a Blaser R93 Tactical in .300 WinMag, and something equally expensive in .375 Weatherby Mag. He wouldn't accept any compensation for his (rather expensive) ammo. He just insisted that they shoot his guns some more. I'm still very disappointed that I missed out on that range trip.

One trip I didn't miss out on - we saw a guy shooting something we'd never seen before (we were new to guns at the time) and it turned out it was a scoped Contender barreled in .454 Casull. He let us shoot more of his handloads than my ramen noodle budget could have paid for and refused any compensation. I shot a 3" group at 100 yards. With a pistol. Wow.

In what other group of people will you see something like this happen? Strangers approaching other strangers regardless of age, race, or religion and offering to let them use their multi-thousand dollar toy. I can't think of any other hobby where someone would ask a total stranger if they'd like to use something of theirs they spent a couple months pay on. And it's not uncommon, either. I bet most THR members wouldn't hesitate to share even their most expensive guns. It's amazing, and that's why I love the gun community.

Few things are as enjoyable to me as shareing shooting experiences with others. Especialy young shooters. What goes around comes around. Essex

congrats on the first time! :) i get alot of joy out of letting people shoot my "cool" guns at the range. i love trading off guns with others.

i hope you get one soon we would all love to hear all about it.

I shot an AR a few times in the past and it didn't impress me. Then I shot it more extensively last week and I liked it. Granted...this time it was a pretty much stock AR instead of one all tac'ed out. I'd love to buy one, but I just can't see spending $1k on a gun and then $4-500 per 1k rounds to feed it. Loading my own would dull the pain, but not enough to make it attractive.

One day a guy let me shoot a Sig P229. Damn him.

That cost me 800+ dollars.

LMAO! That was funny.

And I know the feeling. I have always wanted an AK47 for years and years...even got the okay from the old lady to spend the $600 "Stimulus" money on one when it comes in May. But I went to the range last week and a complete stranger offered up a couple magazines worth through his Bushmaster if he could shoot a couple of mags through my old Colt Combat Commander.

I put a brand new Bushy on layaway the very next day...

Glad to see you enjoyed it! Welcome to the dark side...

I love letting new shooters get a chance to shoot my firearms. I see it as a great way to convert people over to the joys of firearm ownership as well as a great way to educate them on the truth about firearms.

Even if you dislike the AR15 in particular, the more people that own them, the more common it is for everyday people to own one, the better our chances of keeping the rights to continue to own them.
