And I need a new gun now. I had more fun shooting skeet than I have with any other shooting sport I've ever tried. :)

I was using my 500 with 28" and IC choke. I did OK, but seeing some of the guns out there made me drool. Synergys, fancy autos..

I would really like to get a nice semi auto, but I can't spend $1000 for a Beretta. From my research it looks like the only two worth a crap in my price range are the 930, and Weatherby SA-08. I handled a SA-08 yesterday and it had very nice wood, and the fit and finish was great. I like the 930's price and weight more though. lol Does anyone have strong opinions towards one or the other? Perhaps first hand experience?

Thanks

Pssstt! Hey - kid! You like shooting clays? Here - try this Browning over under... If you like that stuff I got me some Perazzi you are gonna love...

I've never owned a mossberg that didn't beat the snot outta me - and a 2 to 400 round day of clays will do that even with the best gun out there. Probably given the choice of only these two semis - I'd take the weatherby. However - I'd rather find a nice beretta 390 or a used browning over under. Most importantly in your search is to make sure the gun fits you - after that it is just "pull" - 'bang' - "dead bird"!

I agree. Skeet is just a hoot! Even though my best run has only been 14 hits I still love it. I use the same gun you did only no choke. It's just fun trying to hit a moving target with a scatter gun

Buy the Skeet choke for the 500. You will get better at your game. I shoot a Mossberg 500 sometimes for skeet and I'll get between 16 and 20, and I'm not that good.

Personally, the money that you will spend on a Beretta 686 is better spent on ammo to help you shoot more often. An expensive gun just makes you look really good when you miss.

I have considered a used 1100, but I don't enjoy the hassle of tracking down a good used gun.

I've been Thinking about it, and I think I would be better off buying a nice vest, some solid low profile earmuffs, a bunch of shells and rounds of skeet than a new gun for now.

Thanks for the input though. :)

EDIT: Of course the skeet choke too.

You buy a quality gun, you buy it once and you cry (budget-wise) once. After that, you will spend WAY more on clays and ammo - so buy the quality Beretta or Browning or other similar gun now, you will be able to sell it down the road for at least what you spent, if not more.

Too many do not look forward when it comes to costs, buying a cheap gun that breaks will cost you more in lost targets, down time and replacement costs than buying quality once
