I know you all were just dying to hear that. With the elimination of just a few minor flier problems I may actually BEAT 286 this year yet. :D

The new Ruger MKIII is working out just fine. I solved the feeding problem by simply pinching the blades at the top of the mags together a little bit and I havent had a FTF since.

The only problems I have with it now are:

A. I can't find a good target style grip for it. Because the mag release is now being placed on the grip noone has come up with a new grip for it yet.

B. The "loaded chamber indicator" presents new and interesting nooks and crannys for crud to build up in which lengthens cleaning time. I will admit though, I looked at it last night before firing and it looked pretty spotless in there, so it can be done.

C. The need for the mag to now be in the gun to release the hammer makes it even trickier to disassemble and reassemble but, just like the old Rugers, once you get the hang of it it's not too bad.

Well I'll be, here it is now...

Now as far as the Windsor team? Still undefeated BUT one of our top and slightly eccentric shooters has a yet ANOTHER bug up his butt and has not shot the last three matches. There is no indication he will be returning any time soon. So the general consensus is that we'll be getting "our clock cleaned" before the end of the season. Personally, I'm not buying it. I'd love to complete this one last season undefeated, just so I can rub that PITA 's nose in it.

;)

Looks nice! I can't shoot pistol that well, so My solution to poor offhand shooting is to shoot with my rifle instead! :)

Shootin' is shootin' :D

All it takes is practice...

I was lucky enough to to have been taught by good people early in life.

I did NRA bull'seye for a year when I was 18 and my record was 287. I used a Ruger MkII slabside and loved it. I understand your grip problem, the solution....get new grips. I got an overmolded set, I forget which brand. It made a huge difference.

Nice shooting!

Thanks, Yup, I'm just waiting for someone to come out with something. I have a MKII with a 6 7/8 barrel that I used for awhile but got this one thinking the shorter barrel might be an improvement. I think it was. Now I might have the MKII bobbed to about 4" and have another trigger job done by some new guys I found and see what happens. The MKIII has a 5" barrel. Both are very accurate and very reliable.

Good shooting, 280.

This is small bore bullseye shooting, yes? Targets at 50 feet?

I was out shooting this past Sunday at my club in Oak Ridge, when I met three men who invited me to see the remodeled indoor range where they shoot small bore bullseye matches. The range is much improved, BTW. I shot one man's S&W .22, which is very nice, that had a red dot sight. That's something I could get involved with.

So, what are the basics for small bore shooting? Are there different classes of guns or shooters?

I used to shoot alot of bullseye....

but several shoulder injuries from powerlifting has put an end to that sport. Cannot hold the pistol steady anymore........Used a Ruger MkII Govt model. The long barrel made it a bit heavy but the pistol is super accurate......chris3

Hah, funny. While I MAY HAVE shot me a 286 COMPUTER in the past (I recall shooting something electronic once) I haven't done so recently. However, if someone would like to send me one, I would be more than happy to oblige. I pick Cortez Kid's 45/70 for my weapon.

I GTG but will try to post a little on the basics later today.

Well done! Now you have to set your 'sights' on shooting a 290!

Ever shoot any 900's, 1800's or 2700's? I know there is an indoor championship coming up in Connecticut soon.

Drop by my website: http://www.nepistol.com for information about area matches and other stuff.

We also have a monthy challenge in the forum: http://forums.nepistol.com.

Wow, I'm thinking it's a good thing I didn't say something like "Scored a 286 last night" no telling WHAT people might think. LOL...

yes I have shot all of the above. I shoot an 1800 this Sunday and I'm signed up for both the indoor State and the indoor nationals too. I shot a monthly 2700 over the summer.

These things go in increments of 300 points or 30 shots x 10 possible points per shot. There are three stages. Slowfire which is 10 shots in 10 minutes. Timed fire which is 2 strings of 5 shots each with 20 seconds to shoot each string and Rapid fire which is 2 strings of 5 shots each with 10 seconds to shoot each string. What I shot last night was just that at 50 feet, 30 shots one hand only. If you shoot a 900 it will be 90 shots total with 3 slow fire, 3 timed fire and 3 rapid fire targets. If you shoot an 1800 it will be 90 shots .22 and 90 shots .45. If you shoot a 2700 it will be 90 shots .22, 90 shots CENTERFIRE (any centerfire pistol) and 90 shots .45. I use .45 for both CF and .45. You can use a red dot or open sights. Outdoors you will most likely shoot your slow fires at 50 yds and your timed and rapid at 25 yds. Sometimes after your 2700 there will be a "ball" match which is 30 rounds from a .45 or 9mm using ball ammunition and open sights only and then there will be a "Distinguished" centerfire revolver match which involves yet ANOTHER 30 rounds. On those days you can shoot a total of 330 rounds.

IIRC your .22 pistol can have a trigger pull of no less than 2 lbs, your CF and ..45 can have a pull no less than 3 lbs and your Ball gun must have a 3.5 lb trigger pull.

Ball ammo used to be only factory ammo but the rules have changed recently to allow reloads. Unfortunately the first thing people will do is underpower their ball ammo so at that point you might as well be shooting a wadcutter. A lot of us are not too happy with that new rule. Using factory ammo kept the playing field level. Not so anymore.

Hope this answers your questions. If not, ask more.

Thanks for the link BTW, I'll check it out.

I have been looking in to a Mk III with the fluted barrel. That's a sexy gun you have there. Now I gotta have one! :D

Not to highjack the thread but I am not too fond of the Ruger target pistols. I don't like the grip and the recoil can be a bit unforgiving. I have to struggle to get the sights alligned in timed and rapid.

I prefer the Pardini SP or SPE model pistols.

Another excellent target pistol is a marvel conversion on top of a 1911 frame. That is one accurate system.

The ruger is still a great gun for the money though.

I can't find a good target style grip for it. Because the mag release is now being placed on the grip noone has come up with a new grip for it yet.

Aim your browser at http://jnb.com/~funggrip/index.html and pull the trigger. Fung's stocks are the best I've ever found—period.

Congratulations on your 286! My best slow fire score to date has been a 273. My average was around 260 for awhile, but an inflamed elbow has bumped my average down to about 250 the past few months. Pardon me while I turn green with envy, eh?

I shot a Marvel for a year - didn't work for me. I think I had it on top of a Kimber Gold Match (series 1) I've also tried a Buckmark (2 seasons with it - worked good), old HS Victor, Hammerli 280s and my current Bullseye gun is a Pardini SP. The Pardini is excellent - great balance and it has casued an alibi.
286 is excellent.

Yea, I thought about the Pardinis and the Hammerlis. A lot of guys shoot S&W 41s too. I went for the Ruger mostly for the price. I didn't want to spend a bundle only to find out I didn't like the gun. Call me a chicken. The other main reason is they are so reliable. I had one of the real good guys pushing me on the S&W but then I started hearing stories about feeding problems "Not a lot but just enough to tick you off". So I went with the Ruger. So far I'm pretty happy with it.

I have to watch myself too. I find if I don't think I've shot up to par and inadvertantly say something like "Crap. only a 90!" Someone around there is getting steamed because they would LOVE to shoot a
90. All I'm thinking about though is making or besting my average. I never think about whether I'm beating the other guy, only myself.

I'm beginning to think the problem is not shooting a 286 as much as finding a 286 to shoot! I have to admit I'm a little surprised noone has come up with a pic of a shot up computer yet...

:p

SW, I checked the link. Nothing for MKIII BUT I will call them tomorrow. Maybe it'll help light a fire under their butts. Thanks!

:D

Well, the guy that taught me to shoot pistol WAS an old MC Gunnersmate.

But after reading the book on Gunny Hathcock I now think to myself , "Wait for the break, wait for the break." while I'm in trigger squeeze mode. It works, so I guess I owe the Jarheads a little something too. :p

We'll need a 286 computer to shoot with that Python I think...

:D
