Shot my new Rem .308 Tactical

Hello all, first time on THR. Picked up a new gun last week & so far I love it. I put a Bushnell 3x-9x on it until I get my Burris back from being repaired. First shot was at 3x, a little off. But then shot a 9/16", 4-shot group while breaking in the barrel w/ cheap Winchester 150 gr. ammo. Very impressed w/ this gun so far! I have the trigger at 3 lbs. I'm going to use it for hunting as well as paper so I don't want to go lower. That's as far as the Xmark will go anyway. Can't wait to see what it likes to shoot & then punch some little holes! On SniperCentral they shot 168 gr. Federal match-grade w/ good results. Any of you have one of these guns? What does yours like to eat?

Almost. I paced it off. I didn't care if it was right at 100 since I was just breakin in the barrel. Was actually about 90.
 
keep us up to date --- im about this close to getting me one of those, man i want one so bad. been really thinking of building a 700 from scratch but the more i read about the sps tact seems the best of both worlds , hunting and paper punching

I just wanted to congratulate you on the shooting & rifle ownership. You must be feeling pretty good about that.

My 700 gets handloads. So I don't know what to recommend except for a press, dies, etc. Short of that you might get some more of those cheap Win 150's
 
Nice shooting. A 168 SMK over 42 gr of RL15 is a good place to start. My standard load has become a 175gr SMK over 42.6gr of RL15 in a Lapua case. Of course, these loads were safe in my rifle, but you should work up.

Sierra MatchKings are good and I have had some good success with Hornady's AMAX in my DPMS LR308. My powder of choice is Hodgdon Benchmark, it is a short grain powder which meters well, and is in their Extreme family which means that it is less susceptible to temperature change.
 
Got one a couple of months ago. Have only fired a few rounds thru it. Haven't had a chance to see what it will do accuracy wise. Trying to decide what scope I want to put on it. I've got a Burris 3X9 on it now, but I want a better scope. Nice gun huh?
 
I have had my Rem 700 about a year and just finished working up this load ( for my rifle only ) Notice the COL .010" back off from the lands. The bullet was a Sierra Game king and fire formed FC cases. When I can afford it I will try Lapua Cases and bullets.see attachment This is a 5 shot group.

Wow, what a group! I now have a goal. Thanks to all. I'm going to take all this info to my friend who's been doing this for most of his life & see what we can come up with. He has most calibers up to .308, not doesn't have a .308, so it'll be fun finding out what this thing likes to eat. I'll keep ya posted...
