Went to the range, ostensibly to see if the Korean M2 actually went bang without splitting its cases, and also to compare it with some Lake City I happen to have. Mostly, though, as it turns out, without thinking about it I went just to bruise my shoulder by shooting a big rifle built when it would seem strange to build a rifle out of anything but wood and steel.

My best 1-clip group, shot at 100 yards prone with a sling, would fit neatly on a saucer. I'm sure the rifle can do better, and maybe once I could too, but today it was perfect. Later, while cleaning, I even managed to smash my finger in the action. As I put the rifle back in the safe, I silently promised all the soldiers who carried her since 1942 that I will take good care of their rifle.

Man, do I feel great.

O.K. I'm jealous. I had every intention of going to the range today...but the honey-do list was too long...never made it. Then in rained hard for an hour with drizzle the rest of the afternoon. :( I'm glad someone got to go.
Maybe next week for me!

The M1 is just a joy to shoot.:)

Shot it a couple days ago.
The rifle was way older than the shooters, except me.:)

I was issued a new International Harvester in 1956.
Wish I had it now.

Went last week to shoot mine. This is my first M-1 (but won't be my last, I have already made plans to make a trip to CMP's north store)

It was a blast to shoot, shot about 1" at 25 yards with out trying. I love this rifle and I actually get giddy when I think about what a piece of history it is, not to mention actually shooting the thing!
