It's a nice day today so I went to the range to see what it would do. My dominant eye has responded very quickly to cataract surgery and I can now see pistol sights with no optical help at all. First off was some Winchester Super X HP that I haven't managed to find the bullet weight or related velocity of but I ran two mags thru the gun without a hiccup and accuracy was pretty good for a shaky old guy shooting off hand. I only have one box of this stuff and don't know if it's even made anymore. No matter, there is no 22 mag ammo to be had apparently. I switched to Winchester Dynapoint 45 gr. HP at 1550 fps and the gun won't cycle it. Fire a shot, rack the slide, and fire another shot is the way it went for two mags and accuracy stunk. Now I have 30 rounds of ammo that works left and 130 rounds that doesn't. I wish someone would offer a 17HMR barrel for the gun. I have a lot of that caliber.

When I got home I decided to switch out the grips with Hogue rubber grips which I have on all my 1911s as I don't particularly care for the way the factory grips feel on this gun. The screws are torx and one of them was stripped from the factory. I wound up hammering an allen bit into the hole and got the screw out. A set of Hogue grips and new screws are on the way. All I'll need is ammo.

There's been quite a bit of .22 WMR seen on gun store shelves around here lately. Hopefully some will make its way down to your neck of the woods.

I was going to post on this exact problem. I have the same gun. When I bought it, I got CCI and Federal Ammo. Wouldn't cycle, wouldn't shoot wouldn't do anything but p!ss me off. Called RIA. They told me to get Armscor ammo and try again. I did. Shooting Armscor, it never missed a lick. Is the CCI and Federal dated ammo? So ***, in my naivete, I thought CCI was about as good as I can get. I really like the idea of a .22mag semi auto, it sets in my nightstand. ANY thoughts, ideas, or suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

All part of the fun of shooting 22 mag semi-auto: finding out which ammo cycles your gun reliably. Every one is different. Asking RIA for their recommendation was a good idea. Their manual specifies ".22 MRF" and CCI is ".22 WMR" though I'm at a loss to know what the diff is, if any. I shot CCI .22 WMR through mine and it cycled just fine. Since you discovered what works for you, you're good to go!!

I was confused with the title and the ammo the OP was shooting. I have both the XT 22 (.22lr) and XTM 22 Mag. My XT 22 is a combo gun with a .45 ACP slide, mainspring, and magazine included. It is accurate with .22lr's but it doesn't cycle worth a hill of beans. The XTM 22 Mag cycles every type of ammo I've thrown at it but its accuracy isn't worth a hill of beans. I did have to modify all three magazines because they would not seat properly and could be pulled out of the gun. It is frustrating taking those two guns to the range. I've learned to bring along something else so I'm able to shoot in peace and tranquility.
