Not my best day but I sure did have fun today shooting my S&W 617 during out monthly Steel Challenge Match.

As long as it took to get use to the red dot sights, I can see having to spend a lot of time dry firing to get use to irons.

I could see my misses before I shot them but was in a too fast to go zone that I didn't just watch the front sight and hit the target. Our last stage was Smoke And Hope and I nailed it for me. One shot one hit per target and I had a decent score.

I used my DS-10 Speed Loaders throughout the match. I used Federal HV Gold Ammo and didn't have one failure. I still need to focus on that front sight to make sure I get my hits. When I did I had one for one hits on the stages.

Thats a huge change in trigger action and muzzle weight going from a volquartzen to a 617. It's gonna take some adjusting for sure. Hard to start and stop that kind of weight quickly on super fast transitions. Hang in there!

Thanks. Yes there's a big difference from my 1.7 pound trigger to my 9 pound DA trigger on the 617 but I'm dry firing every night to build up my trigger finger using #6 wall anchors for dummy rounds.

I shot revolver only for many years and actually like shooting it better. I'm getting up there in years so I'm now into it for the fun and comradery. I also like the fact that I had no jams or misfires for the match. My Smoke & Hope turned out to be my fastest in years.

I still need a lot of work but I'll get there.

Good shooting to you.

I can identify with getting older. I'll be 60 this year, but I'll be darned if I dont find myself still trying to run with the young guys. I am a revolver only shooter now. I dabbled with autos for a while, but could never really learn to like them. My steel challenge rimfire revolver is an 8 shot model 63 with a 3 inch barrel. I like my guns muzzle light.....
