Does anybody know any reason not to load lead shot in hulls that were originally used for steel shot? I purchased 1,000 Winchester AA hulls from www.georgia-arms.com for $38 with shipping. When they arrived they are all steel shot marked. Are these hulls made any different? FWIW the hulls are all once fired and appear to be in very good condition. Out of the 500 or so I have inspected about 5 appear to have been stepped on.

thanks, adam

I have been reloading those with lead shot for years. They are identical to the AA's for lead loads.

With plastic hulls, I've even loaded the hulls that have been stepped on as long as I can compress them back to roundness.

The only real difference in loading steel over lead is that you need use a thicker shotcup for steel. You can use the same hulls for Lead, Bismuth, heavi-shot, Tungsten-iron, Tungsten-polymer or even that new IDX stuff.

The difference in all these loads is the type of powder used, the quantity, and the wads used to protect either the shot (in lead's case) or the barrel of your firearm (in all the other cases). The case is nothing more than a container for the rest. Similar to being able to load hollow points, soft points, flat points, etc in metallic.
