Ok ...got the slug mold on the way, a lee load all on the way (all on sale! YEAH)

Shotgun noobie questions follow . . .

I've been researching my load data and I think I've found some powder/primer combinations that I'd like to try.

So here's the question. The load data I've found lists specific Hull/Wad combinations. How critical is the hull and wad? My original plan was to reuse the slug hulls that I did my testing on with. Will I have a problem putting a "star" crimp on hulls that previously had a roll crimp? If I reduce my loads by 10% am I good to go or do I need go buy the specific batch of hulls and wads to match my load data?

I guess the thing that's playing with my mind is that for rifle or pistol ammo I wouldn't hesitate to use other mfg's brass to start loading . .I just wouldn't start up near the max. The shotgun not only has the hull variations but it also appears to have differences based on what wad is used.

Any and all info is greatly appreciated.

Have a good one,
Dave
