.nobody asked for a citing on what was lega

No, no one did in this thread. My apologies if it came out wrong.

I often get asked to cite where something is legal, which is kind of funny :)

...I just thought it more polite to ask for a cite than to say "that's a bunch of ......."...I'm trying to clean up my act...a little...this IS the High Road....
:p

ditto.

My understanding has been fortified by the info following my post.

I'll post a pic of a couple of us enroute to the range on our scooters with slung rifles and strapped ammo cans.

Despite some negatives, Texas is really a great state...
Even though I was not born here.:D

It would be legal.

I rode my motorcycle to the range with a FAL slung over my shoulder once :)

Didn't even really get any looks, which surprised me.

You can hang it from the review mirror if you want to. But i wouldnt if you dont want it stolen i do conceal my H&R Topper12 under the back seat of the truck in a soft case but a hand gun is really more practical for general defense in and around the vehicle (speed of deployment) unless you need it for sporting reasons i keep a Ruger p95 for that reason. but to each his own and thank goodness your free to make your own decision and remember behave yourself and dont give anyone just case to search your vehicle
Thats rule number one

Tufloc makes a variety of locking systems for vehicle applications, including an overhead rack. They mostly designed to fit typical police weapons (Remington, Mossberg shotguns, ARs, Ruger Mini-14), but they hold the weapon as securely as you're likely to get. They're like the old Lectro-Locks we used to have mounted to the dashboard.

It's been my experience that crooks mainly want handguns not long guns. There's not much of a market for a gun unless they can carry it concealed.

I used to keep a shotgun in my F-250. I got a piece of that chain with the links sort of flattened, I forget what you call it, that just slipped down the bore.
I padlocked a loop of the chain around the seat bracket, dropped the other end through the barrel and out the ejection port, and put another padlock on that end.

When the Mini-30 was the truck gun, I used the same setup, but I padded the chain with bicycle inner tube and looped it through the magwell.

There are also law-enforcement type overhead racks, with electric push-button release, and a manual key override. I cannot cite the manufacturer; my assigned patrol car does not have such a rack, even though I am one of a very few still carrying a shotgun up front.
If I can figure out the manufacturer, I will update it here with another reply.

I am not a lawyer, just a street LEO, so my opinion is of no value in and of itself, but in Texas, long guns are indeed legal, concealed or not, loaded or not, inside one's vehicle, and it has nothing to do with the vehicle being an "extension of the home." It is generally OK to carry long guns on or about one's person, and THAT simply extends to one's vehicle. (Caps for emphasis, not meant to scold. :) )

How about the sun visor shelfs? the ones that put a shelf all the way across the front of the cab that you re-attatch your visors to. I've been wanting to put one in my truck to keep my 30-30 in, lockable if need be may be, and keep it out of site.

Edit: OK, the one I'm lthinking of is called a "shelf it". I found it on JC Whitney's website. Looks like it would work. Look for "overhead consule"

guns in vehicles in texas MUST be concealed!!!!

Glad we cleared this up. 30+ years of driving my truck w/ a loaded .30-30 resting muzzle-down against the seat into the passenger footwell EVERY TIME I headed to something remotely out-doorsy, which is nearly every weekend. Thought for a moment I was just luckily dodging a deep hot mess until TR chimed in----

Google "rifle-it". It should work for shotguns too.

You have to have a bench style seat for this type of seat cover. My truck has bucket seats, but the rear seat is a bench, and this is a good way to go for a shotgun that fits. Rifles with open sights/scope, and long shotguns don't really fit at all.

That seat cover doesn't work too well - after about a year the material really starts to sag.

If they were custom-fit (REPLACED the original upholstery) they'd work much better, but as they are now, they're just aftermarket seat covers that kinda fit when new, and fit like crap when they're old.

Back in the day one of my customers, a sawmiller, carried long guns in a rack in the rear window of his pickup. Like everyone else did. One day some of his employees were sitting in his truck eating lunch. One of them clasped his hands behind his head. (see where this is going?) The shotgun was loaded with slugs. Blew a heluva hole in the quarter pqnel of that truck.

Gun rack, I would love to be able to have a gun rack's in CT. I'd fit one to the Mercedes!:D

Just take it out at night.
