Shotgun snap caps.

I'm interested in these: https://www.amazon.com/Tipton-Reusable-Construction-Dry-Firing-Practice/dp/B0048KKGN4/ref=sr_1_8?crid=1QSD67C77SHXQ&keywords=12+gauge+snap+caps&qid=1707223867&sprefix=,aps,146&sr=8-8&th=1

But the ad issues this caveat: " For use with break open shotguns, not semi-autos or pumps."

Why not semis or pumps? Recommendations for semis?
For others, wouldn’t buy these for even break open guns. The rims are thin plastic and snap off fairly quickly.

I prefer snap caps that don't look anything like real shotgun shells for reasons of safety. I also don't "snap" them anywhere near people or indoors. Was recently a long thread on another site about this.
You can make good snap caps from radically different colored shotgun shells (I use white RIO) cut to about 1 3/4" and the primer pocket filled with automotive silicone. I know, contrary to my first statement, but ...

I use them in my SxS's, always. I use them in my O/U that are standing by for duty. I also use them for O/U's not likely to service for a long while. I don't bother with them in SA and pumps. My frequently used guns, I don't bother.

Why not semis or pumps? Recommendations for semis?
If you want dummy rounds for cycling through the actions of semis/pumps, there are far more durable options. These are brittle and can break if you use them for action proving/practice. They're intended only as snap-caps.

Snap caps and dummy rounds are different, and serve different functions, as 1KPerDay points out.
The ones shown definitely do not hold up to being cycled through semiautos or pumps. The extractors rip the rims to shreds. The Azoom metal ones are slightly better. Action proving dummies for shotguns usually resemble a live shell except have a rubber pad where the primer would be. They are designed for cycling through all types of actions.
