I own and fired both of these today, and thought I would share my thoughts, for those unable to compare them side by side.250 rounds fired,200-winchester white box,50 Remington UMC. Sorry, this will not be a Stephen Camp review, but rather a few pedestrian observations.
LOCATION
Alpine shooting range in Ft Worth.
DISTANCE
Target distance-25 yards,(no other distance available.)
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Steyr is more comparable to a Glock 19 in size,than a G 26.
Steyr slide is slightly wider than the Glock slide.
Steyr is heavier.
Steyr trigger has more travel to engagement, but is more crisp.
CONVERSELY
the Glock feels lighter, narrower, smaller in general. The Glock trigger engages earlier, but seems to have some travel, under tension, before the gun discharges.
FUNCTION
2 stovepipes in 125 rounds from the Steyr, none from the Glock,(also 125 rounds). Both Steyr malfunctions with Winchester ammo.
ACCURACY
I found the guns to be comparably accurate, with a slight advantage to the Steyr,PRIMARILY because the added weight made it easier to stabilize.Neither of these guns are designed however for that distance, and I am certain 10-15 yard double taps into a 6-8" circle would be simple for any semi-experienced shooter.I actually preferred the Steyr triangular sights,(as I am left eye dominant.)
OTHER SUBJECTIVE THOUGHTS
This is simple enough. Both guns disassemble and reassemble in a minute.
Both guns offer acceptable accuracy. The Steyr trigger and sights were preferable to me.The Glock would definitely carry with less effort.Either gun would be reliable enough I feel. The stovepipes on the Steyr could be remedied thru magazine work,or recoil spring or ammo,in all fairness. It is probably meaningless to test a carry pistol at this distance, especially without a ransom rest,so we at last come to a fairly significant difference.
PRICE
Steyr is about $100 - 150 less -street price.

I use a Stey S40 as my primary carry gun. I must agree with everything you said about both guns. I am planning on purchasing a G26 just so I have another carry option in my arsenal. Too bad about those Stovepipes I never had any reliability issues with my S40.
