Where I part from herrwalther's opinion is that I don't believe in returning their "right to bear arms". I also don't believe it is a "God-given right", as there is nothing in the Scriptures that says everybody has a right to carry a firearm; it is a Constitutionally guaranteed privilege, which can be judicially revoked. Their behavior leading up to their loss of 2A rights is proof enough that they are unsuitable for the trust, and cannot demonstrate the duty or responsibility that goes with that "right".
Disagreement is fine. One thing I learned well about felons is they don't stay out of jail for long. When I say they should be able to get their rights back, it should be a long road. If a felon can stay out of jail for 5 or 10 years, they have earned their firearm rights back in my opinion. Vast majority of felons cannot do that and it is virtually impossible anyway.
We are getting into the weeds of a "god given right" verbiage. The 2A is guaranteed by the US Constitution as long as we defend it with activism, choosing the right politicians, and the courts uphold it. Know another country that has a firearms provision in their Constitution that is all but useless? Mexico.
The inhabitants of the United Mexican States have the right to keep arms at home,
for their protection and legitimate defense, with the exception of those prohibited
by the Federal Law and those reserved for the exclusive use of the Army, Navy, Air
Force and National Guard. Federal Law will state the cases, conditions, requirements
and places where inhabitants can be authorized to carry weapons.
God has not defended this right in Mexico. Their government has taken it away or made it nigh impossible to practice.
