Should I be upset or am I too picky

I have had the urge to shoot in 3-gun matches for a while. I have also wanted a carbine AR for quite a while. To take care of these urges, I saved for about a year and a half. I looked and looked and finally settled on a JP rifle. It has a 16" barrel, their handguard and heatsink, flattop and an ACE stock. They suggested a Weaver 1x3 scope and I went with that. With scope the price was............$2149.00. Probably the single most expensive firearm I will ever buy. I sent off the order and waited about 3 weeks. The gun store calls me and tells me it is in. Man am I excited, I get the gun on Friday and am going shooting on Saturday. I leave work a few minutes early and rush to the gun store. There it is, sitting in pieces in a cardboard box. No case, nothing, I have to put the two halves together. No real biggie at this point. Then I notice that there is no scope. I dig through the box, still no scope. I go home and call JP. "We never send the scope with the rifle," they tell me. They say that it makes some gun dealers mad if they see the scope, because they did not get to sell it. While I am on the phone, JP also tells me that the scope mount is on backorder for 3-4 weeks. Now I have a rifle that can only sit in my gun safe (I did not put back up sights on it yet). I have to wait for the scope to get here, either buy or wait for JP's scope mount, and then mount the scope. For this I will either have to travel to the next town to pay someone to mount it or buy the stuff to do it myself.

Should I be upset? I just feel that for over $2000 they could have mounted the scope, or told me about the back order and given me the option of waiting. When I get a new gun, I want to shoot it, not wait for more parts.

You're looking at it as the most expensive gun you own. To them it may just be another order.
I think you have a right to expect a little more courtesy, and I'm afraid that seems to be in short supply with alot of companies today. After you get all of your order together, see if they have a contact number, or website. Let them know about what you went through, and how they can improve their customer service. If they are of any account, they'll appreciate it.

I don't blame ya a bit, Gator. For that kind o' green, I want a backrub with the assembled gun.
Poor service, in my opinion.

I think I would be more than a little miffed myself. It would be different if they would have told you up front that the scope ships seperate, and the mount was on backorder. Then their wouldn't have been any surprises now, and you could have made different arragements if neccesary. Good luck

I'll go against the herd and say your displeasure is misplaced.
Note; This is going to be repetitive, but it's done for effect so please bear with me.

Did you buy the gun from the gunshop? No. Why not? Like any of us, to save some money.

Did you buy the scope from the gunshop? No. Why not? To save some money.

Did you buy the rings from the gunshop? No. Why not? To save some money?

Did you expect to have everything put together and the scope mounted and at least bore sighted? Sounds like. Why? Because you're used to that level of service from the gunshop like all of us are.

But, you didn't buy it from the gunshop. Why not? To save some money?

Did you save enough money to make it worth the experience?

If you bought it this way so that you wouldn't have to pay the gunshop price then why would you expect to get gunshop service?

I did not buy the gun from the gun store because it is not possible. JP only sells rifles custom made. I had also just bought a new shotgun and cleaning supplies for it from that gunstore. The scope was actually a little bit more expensive from JP then from someone like Midway. I thought, 'assumed', that by buying it at the same time as the gun, they would mount it.

To be honest, If I want something done right, I will do it myself anyway. There are a very few select people whom I would trust buying a rifle from without completely taking it apart and checking it inch by inch (or mm by mm for foriegn jobs).
As for the scope mounting, yeah, it would have been nice, but with a new $2000 baby, I want to watch someone mount the scope.
I guess I just don't trust others with work I'd rather do myself. For those who will argue that some people don't have the skills for it, I would argue that most anyone has the basic skills needed to work over an AR and for those jobs you don't have the skill for, find a gunsmith who will let you watch him work.

Just my humble opinion, not meant to upset too many people...

JP sent you the part of the order that they controlled. The scope and mount are provided by another manufactor that at the time of shipping they had no inventory. Would you have been happy if JP had held up the entire order until they had everything to ship together? Before answering consider it could have been an extra 3 to 6 months to get the out of inventory parts.

I don't think they did anything dishonest or wrong, but I think it would be a lot smarter for them to have stated their policies up front.

Could you have had the store order all of it for you and you paid them?

hso,

Buying a custom rifle from a store who has to order it for you anyways is idiotic. Once you figure in the store's markup, which with the lowest going rate is 10%+, then adding in sales tax, it is still more cost effective to do as Gator did and then have the scope mounted later.

I do feel that if you are buying a "custom" rifle and scope package, it should come mounted. Not doing so without stating it upfront, for whatever the reason, is kind of tacky.

I completely agree. I'd be a tad miffed myself, I would have expected a completely assembled rifle PACKAGE.

Interesting site, I hadn't looked at their stuff.

If I ordered this...

"A complete long-range setup: CTR-02 with 20" barrel, tactical comp, Horus Vision H-25 Falcon optic with JPoint secondary short-range sight, Harris bipod, and ACE skeletonized stock with Accu-Shot monopod"

CTR02N2%20copy.jpg

...I would expect a "complete...setup" and not a kit of some sort. I certainly wouldn't expect to have an order shipped in pieces over a period of weeks without any warning.
