Should I buy online?

I just bought my 442 online through galleryofguns.com and it was a great experience, plus my gun is guaranteed for life now, can't beat that. The FFL's aren't going to rip you off because they get a large portion of all their business through the particular website you're using so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Furthermore they ALL compete for your business so you'll have plenty of dealers to choose from. I also have a new friend from the experience. My dealer had become a United States citizen 8 years prior and was actually the armorer for the South African militia's and armys after he left Great Britain. There wasn't anything about firearms, claymores, etc. that this guy aka GunmanJack didn't know. He really sold me as a person when we began discussing terrorism.

My overall experience was an A+ and I highly recommend if you're going to buy from an online source you get the Davison's guarantee. If your gun breaks or malfunctions for any reason you just send it back to Davison and they send you out a brand new weapon, free.

find a ffl that is close and make arangments first....gunbroker, gunsamerica, have ffl lists, but they are not really up to date...gpr

My only experience was through gunbroker.com, and I have no complaints. The gun (a hard-to-find Beretta model) was exactly as described (NIB), and I located a willing FFL from a list on gunbroker who was willing to receive it and do the papwerwork for $20.

Yes, I would do it again. You can't always find what you want close to home, and I don't like having to settle on a second choice.

Make sure that you are saving money first. I was at a gun shop not too long ago and a guy was picking up what he thought was a deal (some type of older military surplus rifle if anyone cares) that he got on the internet. The shop had the gun for $100+ bucks less than what he paid for it. Add on shipping and fees and the guy really paid much more than he would have if he had just talked to his shop first.

yes, make arrangements first

I found a local dealer who had a NIB USP Expert in 45. I went to budsgunshop online and they had the same thing for ~$300 less. I wanted to keep the business local so I asked them if they would come down $100 (I like nice things but money doesn't grow on trees). They basically told me to get stuffed as they had the only one in town and wouldn't budge. So I paid my $ at buds and went to another local store to initiate the transfer. They were reluctant to transfer a new gun, but were willing to make an exception for one that they could not get for me. Eventually they were able to find one from ther source so I ended up buying it from them, and still saved ~$200. I called up buds and told them I was buying it locally, so they gave me store credit which I put toward a P7M8:D

I have a good local FFL that handles transfers. I NEVER buy from someone without a lot of posts at a site. I also try to stick to the bigger dealers. No problems.

I find the gun auction sites a pleasure. Odds are you can find exactly what you are looking for, new or used. You have to know what the market value is of course, of what you are looking for because a large percentage of sellers have their guns listed at an inflated price hopeing a sucker will come along. It doesn't cost them to list if their gun doesn't sell.
And sometimes a great "sleeper" deal will come along.

The gun sites are a great place to start. Just to see what the hell is out there and what it's worth. If you know what gun you're looking for, I've found most local gun dealers will come close to the price of a internet gun when given the chance. If you do decise to go internet, call the FFL dealer first that the gun will be shipped to. Find out his schedule, UPS service schedule and what he requires from you. Many do it part time out of their home and don't have "business hours". You'll know by talking to them if you are comfortable to do business with them. If not, most of the time the web site will recommend several dealers in your area. Sometimes Handguns require a waiting period and the paperwork can be done before the gun actually arrives....this way you won't have to wait so long once the gun arrives. Good luck.

I've bought 2 new guns from Ordnance Outsellers. I found a pawn shop in town that would do the FFL transfer for $15.00. They were at least $10.00 cheaper than all of the gun shops.
