I got a SA Black Stailnelss. Pretty gun except fer one thing. The outside of the chamber was ugly right out of the box. While everything else is polished and pretty, this sticks out to me. Would polishing the exterior of the chamber affect the gun mechanicaly? I dare not say the word dremmel:scrutiny:
I just wanna brighten it up a lil bit, but keep the .45 ACP stamp on the barrel.
Thanks

Polish

You can polish it with a strip of crocus or emery cloth via the "Shoeshine" method, but remove no more than is necessary to obtain the desired finish. The forward area is a lug wall. When you remove material from the top of the chamber, you reduce the height of that wall, and hence the vertical depth of lug engagement. Not a major issue if you have 90% or more of the available depth engaged...but could be if you have only, say...75% of the total. Try to keep pressure on it so as to polish on an angle that preserves as much material at that lug wall, taking the heavier amount off the rear of the chamber as you get to the hood.
