This thread may seem very bizarre to most, but please bear with me. I am more along the lines of religious or superstitious and a shotgun I purchased a while back has cast a bit of worry to me. I purchased this Saiga-12 semi auto shotgun a couple of years ago and it has functioned well. It is the AK-style semi auto, mag fed shotgun. I really love this gun, but I was dismayed when I saw the serial number ended with six - six - six . I field stripped the gun and realized the bolt assembly of this Saiga 12 also has the six six six number stamped on to two different parts of the bolt. This is very disturbing to me.

Yes, some of you may think I am crazy, but I just don't like having a gun that I feel has any evil-inclinations. Also, this number is somewhat of a curse according to my religious beliefs and I just rather exchange this Saiga 12 for another one. I actually had plans to buy a converted Saiga 12, so getting rid of this one, could fund my next venture.

Some people told me that I can actually sell the gun for more money because of this special (or cursed) insignia on the gun. I guess to some people, this really can be considered the "EVIL BLACK ASSAULT SHOTGUN." LOL

The gun has not been fired very much at all and is still in very good condition, minus some minor paint wear from taking in and our of a safe. It has functioned well and I love the gun. I just want to get another Saiga 12 that doesn't have the numbers that trouble me.

Anyway, do people think I should mention that the gun's SN ends with six-six-six and has six-six-six (no other numbers) stamped on the bolt on my ad for selling this gun? I wonder if someone may just take it from me right away just because of the fact. I just want to get rid of it, but I did pay about $650 for this gun. I will sell it for $150 less then the cheapest price someone can find it new. I am thinking I will ask $400-$450 or I can sell it for a little more and include a SureFire 12rd mag or two with it. I bought way too many SureFire mags and need to get rid of a couple.

If anyone thinks I should charge more because of the weird numbers on this gun, let me know. Although, I have to admit, I would feel weird making extra profit on something I felt is evil.

OOPS.. I just realized I posted a Saiga 12 question in the rifle forum.. If needed, this thread can be moved to shotgun forum.. sorry.

What you suffer from is called hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia .. seriously :)

The "hex" in my name isn't related, but rather is a play reference to hexidecimal computer language. Just in case you were wondering.

Personally, if I were you, and please understand I mean no insult to your religious beliefs .. but since you have bad feelings about it, I'd look at it as an opportunity of interest to research the actual historical significance of the number 666 reference and how it's inclusion into your religion's scripture came about.

I'm having a hard time deciding if mentioning that reason for getting rid of the gun will help (because it indicates that nothing is actually wrong with the gun) or hurt (because it's such a goofy reason to sell that someone might suspect that you're hiding the real reason).

If you're in Arizona, I'll buy it for $400.

I would sell it. But then again it might be possessed and come back for you. Who sold it to you? Is he still alive? Have bad things started happening to you since you bought it? Did you pay $666 dollars for it? Any weird dreams or visions? Maybe you should consult a priest and have it excorcised. Have any family members touched it or shot the gun? I think you have a real problem on your hands. .....LOL....Russ

I'm guessing that the "666" on your gun isn't a stand-alone number, in which case I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's not like having it will curse you or anyone that owns it either. The "666" referenced in the Bible refers to people willingly accepting a mark (not fully sure why a specific number was given) on their hand or forehead as a means to purchase necessities. All that said I still try and stay away from things that are marked "666" anyway (but only as a stand-alone sequence) to make a clear statement for myself that I will choose God over everything else.

In some cases you're quite right that people would pay more for something because of the "666." But I wouldn't feel right advertising as such, though if asked I wouldn't have a problem telling them about the number (if you do end up selling it).

It has nothing to do with the 666 you are worried about, and I think you are over-reacting.
If you sell it, I would mention it, because some people might find it amusing. Others (most) won't care.

Your fears are based on ridiculous superstition..... Having said that there is probably some other superstitious person out there who would like it and pay a premium to have the 666 gun.

Put it up for sale with the s/n featured prominently and it should be gone in no time.

He's not asking about his feelings about the number/gun, he's asking if he could get more money for it by pointing this out.

Yes, I'd list it as such on Gunbroker with a starting price of $666 and would have some closeup photos of the serial numbers (use the macro setting on your digital camera).

I think you could find someone who thinks it's cool enough to pay that price. (not me, though)

I wonder if the barrel heats up enough you can use it to brand your forehead with?

Seriously though, you can subtly include the serial number as XXX666 instead of the usual 123XXX. Then label your ad/thread as For sale: The Beast. If you word it in a fun way I think it will attract more attention than a run of the mill for sale pitch.

So you are afraid of owning a gun with the NotB, but not too afraid to profit from it?

I am currently listening to NOTB by Iron Maiden... Reading this post... what a trip.

OP, are you nuts? That is an awesome gun and it seems as though it has served you well. If you sell it, it may get in the wrong hands. The best thing, the safest thing... dare I say, the righteous thing... is to keep it and assure the world it will be used in a peaceful manner to bring good.

I don't know, my boot camp rifle had 666 in the serial number. On my last shot on the 300 yard line, they pulled my target the exact moment the shot broke (pulled in error). I hit center, high and scored a 2 instead of the 5s that I had been hitting. The RSO would not allow me a re-shoot, though he admitted that it should probably have been a 5. After scores were tallied, I missed tying company high marksman by 2 points. :banghead:

now i dont know what your specific religious beliefs are......

however.....i have not been able to find a unified theory as to why "666" is inherently a "bad" number.....which leads me to believe it is a bunch of voodoo.....

however, there are also several beliefs that "666" represents peace, unity, and harmony..........

but I was dismayed when I saw the serial number ended with six - six - six

Around here there are thousands of phone numbers, including my two, that are XXX-666-XXXX and not one reported case of demons coming down the chimney at night to steal souls.
FWIW
YMMV

Or you could take it as a sign. You have be destined to single handedly been chosen to defeat the devil himself.

Religion can be a funny thing within a person. It can be even more perplexing as to what others beliefs are. At least in the US we have some choice in the matter. More likely to keep our choice if we keep our guns.

The only way to know is to try to sell it for more. Speculation only goes so far.

Maybe someone else is destined.

Didn't some scholars figure out several years ago that the actual translation was 616?

Anyway, I would just put the gun up for sale if it bothers you. I personally wouldn't mention anything about it in the ad, but it is entirely up to you.

Evergreen,

You are NOT being supperstitious or overly kautious. When I was in high sckool, I took the SAT X-ams. My Kimbined Score was "666" and I have ben having bad luck ever cents.

MCIM

If the actual serial number was "666", then I'd understand your concern. But if the serial number is "294666" or "28366685" or "AMR666" or anything similar, then YOUR SERIAL NUMBER ISN'T "666". The symbolic demonizing of "666" is in it's "Free standing" own right. Not because "666" happens to be part of something else.

What happens when you are driving or climbing a mountain road and you reach the elevation of 8666 feet. Do you blow up? Probably not. Not making like of your beliefs; but unless the "ACTUAL SERIAL NUMBER" is "666", and not "JUST PART OF", then I have no idea what your concern is. I am 25% german. Does that make me a german citizen? No. Does it make me a nazi? No. Your serial number is 30-50% "666". Does that make that gun "Satan's Gun". Very unlikely. Now, if the serial number is "JUST 666", then get back with us.

Some people told me that I can actually sell the gun for more money because of this special (or cursed) insignia on the gun. I guess to some people, this really can be considered the "EVIL BLACK ASSAULT SHOTGUN." LOL

I would try to sell it on Gunbroker as it has the widest audience. You may be surprised (or not) at what some people will buy.

If you're COMBINED score for the SAT was only 666, I think bad luck is only a part of your problem.

All this stupid-stition is absurd.

:D I thank everyone for their response. Yes, I know some of you think I am a goofball for worrying about this, and you MAY be right.. LOL Also, I agree there is a debate over the esoteric meanings of the number and its consequences. One person said I was destined to fight the devil, well that is great, but I rather fight him with a gun that doesn't have six-six-six stamped all over it.

One thing people here are not understanding, is that the six-six-six stamp is not just part of the serial number. You see with a Saiga 12 shotgun, the last three numbers of serial number are stamped on various parts of the gun. So, actually the number six-six-six, stand-alone, is stamped in two places on my bolt and also is stamped, by itself, on the side of the shotgun. If the serial number ending in six-six-six was the only problem, I may have let this go. But for some reason on the Saiga, they stamp the last three numbers all over the gun. SO, essentially, this gun has six-six-six printed all over it.

Yes, some people may think this it is ridiculous, some may think it is cool, some may think it is cursed, like myself.

I just want to be rid of the gun. It works great, but I am just a bit creeped out. One person here is right, I shouldn't attempt to make a profit off of the number, because it would be immoral. Actually, I just want to get rid of the gun, so I thought if mentioning it could help me get rid of it faster, then I would do so, only for that purpose. I would try to get back as much of my money as I can for the gun. The gun probably has not had more than 200-300 rounds put through it.

I'm aware some people may pay more for a gun with six-six-six stamped all over it. Like I said, for some it may be a novelty, but for me a bad omen. :uhoh::uhoh: For anyone who thinks I am a religious nut or weird, now is a great opportunity for you to get a good deal on a Saiga 12...

Ian, I am in Oregon, but gladly will ship to an FFL in Arizona from my FFL in Oregon. You will have to pay $400 + FFL fees + shipping.

Good thinking. If you believe that the rifle is a bad omen it would not be right to make a profit off of it. Then again I do not believe you will find "666" as the actual mark of the beast.

You are over-reacting, but I can understand why it took you back a bit. The in-laws got my boys "western" kits, with six guns and the toy plastic guns have "666" stamped on the barrel. I paused for a second, thought it odd, and then went on with my life. I wouldn't advertise it, probably more people would get the heebie-jeebies than be inclined to purchase it because of the s/n.
