Should I sell my Yugo SKS?

When I first bought it, it was $320. It came with a tapco stock. I've fired about 200 rounds from it. It's a decent rifle. What I don't like about it is that it's so front heavy. I had a Norinco SKS that I regret selling. The Norinco SKS was short and it felt much better. I should've sold the Yugo instead and kept the Norinco. One reason why I kept it was because of the history behind it. And of course it was my first rifle. It was hard to part from it. Now I realized that I really don't do much with it. I'm having a hard time deciding whether to keep it or sell it.

SKSs are no longer growing on trees as they once did. Why don't you buy a nice wood stock for it and return it to a conventional wood and steel carbine configuration?

It's impossible finding anyone at a Gun Show or gun store down here that sells wooden stocks for the Yugo SKS. If you know of any online retailers that sell it, please give me link.

If you've got the tools to do it right, you can take all the grenade launcher and bayonet lug junk off the front of a Yugo and help improve the balance. Kind of spoils the historical aspects, though.

Still have one in all original unissued condition, beautiful. Dont plan on selling it - cost $161 delivered! But if you don't like it, and just want to get rid of it, well, that's your decision!

I recently sold my Yugo. While I like the SKS rifle, the Yugo was more of an impulse buy partially due to the history. That said, and as you mention, it just didn't "fit" what I need/want rifles for. It was an odd duck in that it was a carbine longer than some rifles, the milled receiver (a plus in my book) further weighed down the otherwise already heavy rifle.

It was accurate and an interesting piece of history but practically only fit the role of a range rifle. Everything I own (mostly milsurps) serve the range, hunting and similar needs. I think of it as collecting history with a purpose.

If you don't like it, sell it. If you don't plan on having another 7.62x39, get rid of the ammo too. Otherwise, you'll find another one magically appear in your safe.

I think you'll regret selling.

$300 is not a huge amount of money to have "tied up " , but you can easily waste/loose it paying an electric bill, or some such thing;

I still have my 59/66 but just sold my Yugo M59 SKS.
The 59/66 shot better because of all the weight upfront and its newer condition.

THey were the longest selling SKS model in US history . Available from 2001 to the present as far as I know although its dwindling in numbers as of today.

I have a bunch of them still packed with grease and will leave it that way. They are very accurate compared to the regular ones. THe heavy barrels do play a big part.

At $320 you've sunk too much money into it to sell it, unless you are willing to take a loss. With that tapco junk on it, you won't get top dollar.

If a Yugo has been Tapcoed, remember 922 r. Ten parts must stay U.S. made.

I love mine, I left the grenade launcher and bayonet on to keep it front-heavy. I put on the muzzle-brake that came with the kit, and recoil now is negligible. But I've always liked heavy guns.

Keep it, 7.62x39 keeps coming down. I've seen Golden Tiger for $229/1000. It may go even lower.

I also like Norinco better. I sold all my Yugos and bought Norincos. You can always trade your Yugo for standard SKSs such as Norinco. My SKSs shoot almost as well as my FALs at 1/2 the price. Ugly but cheap! Cheap ammos too!

If you don't need the money, then I suggest that you keep it. Or see if you can swap it for a Norinco paratrooper if you enjoy shooting that one better.

I sold a mint unissued Yugo this past winter for a very nice price during the "panic." I had no regrets - I used some of the money to buy a pre-64 Winch. 94, which I enjoy much more. I find the 94 much handier, easier to use and carry, and an all-around more practical rifle for civilian use.

My Point - if you don't love it, sell it and get something you enjoy more. Life's too short for many things, including tying up money in guns you don't like.

If you really prefer the Norinco; sell the Yugo and put the cash towards one.

How about trying to trade it plus a little cash for a Norinco D or M series which were designed to use AK mags? There are tons of regular Norincos out there.
The forward center-of-gravity and useless extra weight of Yugos steered me directly to Ns, because I never found the correct type of grenades which could be launched.

The "SKS lifestyle" people at "SKSboards" include a wide variety of knowledgeable owners, and even have a forum just for Albanian versions. You might cross-check what they know over there.
