We're taking a survey. Since the NRA 2007 convention won't be in Ohio, the governor of Louisiana invited the 2007 convention to her state. Was this a daring invitation? Should the convention move to Louisiana? Vote and leave your comments in our poll.

I honestly think it should be in New York or San Francisco. Seriously. Yes I know that all the atendees will not be able to CCW, and might not even be able to bring any guns at all, but it's time to send a message to California and New York that the NRA has not written those two states off.

Why reward anti-gun rights states like CA, NY, MD, MA, NJ etc with close to $20 million in revenue? It would be revenue they'd use against law abiding gun owners by funding frivolous lawsuits to bankrupt firearms manufacturers.

I'd rather see the money and the convention go to a state/city with a strong pro-gun rights stance. The NRA can continue to help those of us stuck behind enemy lines (the "blue" i.e. communist states) in small ways, but why throw resources at a losing cause? Better to use them to enact meaningful federal legislation that will restore freedom to those of us stuck in the badlands. It would be fantastic to see a federal law recognizing concealed firearms permits nationwide similar to the one recently passed for current and retired law enforcement.

I would truly love to have the convention in my home state. They don't call us the "Sportsman's Paradise" for nothing; the NRA would be welcome here.

+1 for New Orleans.

I've already spent way too much of my life and money in New York City and San Francisco on business trips. I have no desire to leave any more money in any city/state that blatently violate our Second Amendment rights. Anytime the NRA decides to have the convention in one of those two venues, and throw in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle for good measure, I won't be there. The state and local politicians are not going to listen to the opinions of several thousand out-of-towners over their own deluded subjects and we're not going to accomplish a thing other than hand over more tax revenue for them to use against us. Resident members should already know that the NRA hasn't abandoned them so why punish the rest of us?

New Orleans would welcome us with open arms, great food and Southern hospitality. Just like Houston this year, you might see a couple of people from the Dozen Mom March but for the most part, locals will support the NRA. Besides, nobody parties like a Coona**. :D

"Laissez les bons temps rouler!"

Sorry, being born a Cajun I couldn't let that go.... ;)

I think NO would be a fantastic venue for 2007.

Yes,

It should be held in LA. I'm from the Atlanta area and though I'll be going to Milwaukee next year I'm glad to see the possibility of the convention coming south again.

Denver got burned by the occurrence of Columbine, and the entire convention got canceled except for the annual meeting and elections. I'm not sure I would do the convention in Denver, but Colorado Springs would be a good choice. The area is very gun friendly.

You know, starting now, every time I hear NRA reps openly writing off California, I'm going to re-up my GOA membership. If you want my money, at least give some lip service to helping me. :banghead:

New Orleans sounds good. Definitely better than some. Just don't hold it in Denver. Colorado overall is 2nd friendly, but not DEN. IIRC, they have made themselves a safe area for illegals. I don't want to reward them for doing that.

Cosmoline,

I doubt there is enough hotel capacity in BR to have the NRA convention. NO would be the best place in LA.

Raining on the Parade

I hate to rain on everyone's parade, BUT, here goes:

IIRC, they held the 2002 or 2003 SHOT Show in NOLA. I have heard rumors, admittedly I don't have an inside line to the SHOT honchos, but, the rumors have it that the SHOT show would never go back to NOLA. Expensive, dirty hotels, poor convention hall service, worse attitude, dangerous, and corrupt. No end of problems. Being from LA and having lived and visited in NOLA, I can attest to all of the above.

NOLA is not "gun friendly". Their anti-gun attitude has run all of the gun shops and ranges to the neighboring parishes (Counties).

BR would be a fair choice (Not near as "exciting" as NOLA), as would Shreveport. I personnally think that the NRA can be more creative than that, however.

Of course, if it is in NOLA, I'll go! CCW if YOU do!

New Orleans is a nice place, but Little Rock AR is where it should be. Even our State Senator is trying to get it here.

There is only one place to have it - Viva Las Vegas Baby! :D

You could have a little full auto fun while you're here! :)

They are going to LOSE long-term if they write off California and New York. Holding the convention in Louisiana is just preaching to the choir, and serves no purpose (other than being a good place to hold the convention in a gun-friendly state with lots of CCW reciprocity).

San Francisco, Los Angeles or New York City are the places to hold it. DC is also a gun-banner's dystopia, but it doesn't make much sense to hold it there, because it is a tiny voting block and it's not really relevant. California and New York are huge voting blocks, they are places where gun rights are under heavy attack, and where the NRA could get a lot of new members. Also, Los Angeles is very well equipped for conventions.

NRA, grow some cojones, have your convention in Los Angeles! There are a LOT of gun owners and gun-supporters in Los Angeles who feel totally abandoned by the NRA.

The NRA will also get a lot more publicity (which is a good thing) by holding it in Los Angeles because there will be protests and controversy. Free publicity!

COME TO LOS ANGELES! Don't be cowards! Don't abandon us who are in the Blue States!
