Yes I know all the issues with shoulder holsters. However I've developed pretty bad sciatica lately, and wearing ANYTHING on my strong side hip (or even tightening my belt too much) pretty much drops me to my knees. A shoulder rig is my last option to be able to still carry on body which, I much prefer over off body carry.

With that said does anyone have any recommendations on who makes a good shoulder rig for a full size S&W M&P .40 or a HKP7M8 (I'll carry either gun, not trying to get a one size fits all holster)?

Alessi Holsters, check out the Bodyguard model. The complete rig will run $200.00 + and will take a while to get, but they make great holsters.

It's nice to hear someone else mention Alessi aside from me these days. I have a bodyguard rig for my Hi Power that I got back in the day before Alessi passed away. They are sill churning out unbelievable stuff. They are on the upper end of price, and there is a wait of a few months, but it is worth it.

The Bodyguard is what my wife carries her Kimber in. Now that she has added a Remington R1, she wants me to order a Bodyguard holster for that too. That way she can swap holsters on the same rig.

+1 more for the Alessi. Bought my first one in the 80's for my Detonics Combat Master and been sold on them ever since.

Have two from Ted Blocker holsters, but they're local to me, easy to get to and lay hands on things before buying.

Have my Blackhawk in the vertical rig as my EDC, and 12 more rounds in loops on the other side. (although I usually carry the M&P as backup IWB)

Wife has her 1911 in the standard lifeline, with 2 mags riding opposite, they vanish into her bustline well.

Haven't had any problems with the holsters yet,my low back went out a few weeks ago. Can't get around the bit of weight from the shoulder rig, but the IWB is still pushing the wrong spots on the beltline.

Also, the shoulder rig doesn't care if you're in your skivvies ;) very handy for those very late night moments.

I have a Galco one that I like. I think its called a Miami special or something like that. Not to expensive and fairly comfortable to wear. Might be able to get one for one of your two pistols.

I would think that with the weather there in TX it would be sort of tuff to wear a shoulder rig?

Wildbillz: Texas is hot, no argument there, but I've been dressing around an OWB with a fullsize pistol for almost a decade. A shoulder holster really isn't any different in terms of cover garment needs.
