I bought myself a Vaquero 4.62" 357Mag recently. My first SA and I'm really liking this revolver a lot, except for one thing....The carry weight. I'm 66 in a month,my butt and hips seem to have disappeared and I find it harder to carry a heavy pistol in a holster on a gun belt when wandering about the woods. I nearly hit the buy icon on a Tanker from El Paso Saddlery when I found this rig...
.It is an over the shoulder belt with a cross draw holster. The holster can be worn on the right side on its own. It is a finely made piece of kit, most of the weight is on the shoulder and the holster also attaches to a belt if wanted. In the colder months I can lengthen the belt and wear it over a coat if needed.
I got it from Montana Holster and Shoulder Rig www.montanaholster.com Norm is good honest guy to deal with and makes a mighty fine product

Nice looking holster! Like that it can be used as both a shoulder holster or as a belt holster. Thanks for the link to Montana Holster and Shoulder Rig.

I do not have a Montana Holster yet but I sent an email inquiry to them and Norm answered quickly. I like US made products by individual craftsman.

John B 40, I see this rig does not have a strap around the back like most do. Have you had yours long enough to decide if that is a good thing or do you think one is needed?

Hi farm23, No it doesn't have a strap around the back. The way the belt is shaped it is not needed. It just hangs naturally on your side between your armpit and waist, like Norm's photo on his home page. A back strap would make it more restrictive in my opinion. I have been wearing mine around the ranch a lot and find it non invasive, doesn't move around and (at least for me) puts the Vaquero's grip right where it should be when I reach across to grab it. If you want really it locked in place, the holster has a strap on the back which you can loop around your pants belt and snap in place. There is no way movement is possible if you do that and that would suit riding on an ATV or horse. You wouldn't be able to do that with a jacket lower than your waist, but in colder weather I will just make the belt longer and wear it over my coat/jacket. I intend to eventually buy just a holster for my Colt Commander,so I can carry it too using the shoulder belt
