Just as the title reads, which do you prefer for a full size handgun? The classic which carries horizontally, or the jackass that carries it at an angle? I had a vertical that I could never get comfortable with the draw. I am 6ft 220lbs for reference.

IMO, depends on the person and the situation. Many hunters are very comfortable with a shoulder or cross-draw rig.

I tend to adjust shoulder holsters with the muzzle higher than the grip, and tight (relatively) up to the armpit, to avoid swinging. It also makes (IMHO) for a more reliable draw stroke, since the straps can't 'follow' the holster as much.

I'd suspect that both the classic and Jackass could be adjusted to be pretty close to the same carry, though, by varying the length of the straps, though I haven't used them.

For future readers, a bit of clarification:
1. The Classic shoulder holster is the vertical one; usually with the muzzle pointing down.
2. Galco, under it's original name Jackass Holsters, popularized the horizontal carry under the off-side armpit
3. Most other horizontal carry shoulder holsters as clones of the Jackass...whether it is horizontal or at an angle is dependent on how the shoulder harness is adjusted

I used the classic Jackass Leather Miami Classic years ago, hands down the most comfortable of shoulder holsters...which isn't saying much since not one single shoulder holster I ever tried was comfortable enough to wear all day without discomfort. Mine was old enough it was just "large auto", not model specific.

I think he was referring to the 'Miami Classic', which is a different style from the 'Jackass' rig they're currently selling.

Ah, thank you. The lack of capitalization in the body of the OP threw me off track and the use of classic style lead me to the generic meaning

I use the horizontal holsters for a more reliable retention (like Miami). I even discussed with holster makers and users if a holster with a passive retention may be used now (consensus is no or not yet). I adjust the bufferfly low, which helps to control the swinging, as well as provides the resistance to the draw motion. This is contrary to what Hollywood movies show, but I found it working much better.

I carry a full size 1911 in a Miami Classic. Its comfortable and secure. Its more horizontal than vertical. The mag pouches on the opposite side really help balance it out.

I prefer the Alessi, it's very similar to the Jackass pictured above, but on guns with an external safety (not a trigger safety like my Kahr) the retention is a pull-the-dot snap in the trigger guard, no thumb break. Just grab it and tug.

I also have an Alessi for my Kahrs, but it has a traditional thumb break... and that's OK, too.

The combo...

...and you can see the PTD snap retention in the trigger guard.
