Tactical Pro II, Kimber Ultra Carry II. The tactical family of pistols might be the nicest set up pistols kimber makes.

Top left: Polymer Stainless, stopped counting rounds at 10k. I blasted the grip safety (it had a brushed finish), changed the trigger, and installed a rescomp mag catch to use P14 magazines. I think I got the last one brownells had.

Top Right: Compact Stainless. I had Mepros installed, otherwise pretty stock. Former EDC.

Center: Stainless. The trigger was changed by the previous owner, and I had a night sight put up front. Pretty much a spare in case my EDC breaks. Unlike the rest of my guns, this one still looks new. The previsous owner said he'd bring me the old trigger, but he got moved to a different zone, then I got married, so neither one of us are at the range as much. I guess I could swap the trigger with the compact so my twins are twins again....

Bottom: Classic Stainless. Other than the rollmark, I cant find a difference in this one and the regular stainless. Got it from a buddy for $500, and it replaced my 4" kimber for EDC.

All are series I, and have had the correct guide rod (or a cut down FLGR) and matching plug installed. Except for the 4", it has a short guide rod, but its a little too long, so I had to leave the open spring plug.

On this past Friday I took the plunge and purchased my first Kimber. In fact, despite having been an active shooter for 34 years this is my first 1911. After examining several 4" models I chose the Pro Raptor II. I immediately replaced the wood grips with Hogue diamond patterns (yes the Raptor pattern is beautiful but I prefer rubber).

I purchased a box of American Eagle FMJ 230 grn (only brand the range had on hand) and a target. A picture of the pistol and target are below. Distance to target was 7 yards and rate of fire was moderate. I experienced one FTF and was quite pleased. I plan to take it back this weekend for another go.

How could you be quite pleased with one FTF in one box of ammo? You Kimber guys are something else. Kimbers are iffy guns. I don't want an iffy gun when there is something at stake and there is Always something at stake.

I shot my 1000th round thru my S&W 1911 today and have had no malfunctions period.

I meant that I was "quite pleased" with the over-all performance and not with the FTF. I had not shot a 1911 in 15 years and felt pretty good about the results. As to the FTF, I'm pretty sure I did not load that round properly to begin with since it was the first round I put into the magazine.

If you don't like Kimbers or us "Kimber guys" don't read Kimber posts or threads. It would probably make your life much more pleasant. ;)

+1

I hear stuff from the haters all the time. 1911s aren't Glocks, and they aren't built like Glocks. One FTF isn't a big deal at all as long as it doesn't keep coming back after the first 50-100 rounds.

I've experienced 2 FTF out of a brand new Glock 19 in the first 50 rounds or so. After that no problems at all. I consider the gun to be 100% reliable. Same exact thing with an XD45 (4" service model) I bought a few years ago and sold since then.

There's a difference between experiencing "issues" in the first 100 rounds and experiencing them constantly after that. I won't keep a gun that has issues after the first 100 rounds.

Heck, I've seen people that spend over $2k on a Wilson Combat 1911 only to get rid of it soon after because it was giving them problems. Kimber makes a fine "off the shelf" 1911, and IMHO they make the best considering the price and availability. I think the most wild thing I've ever heard about Kimbers is that they "blow up" more often than any other 1911, "especially the cheaper models." LOL!

I'm happy for ya.

After I bought it, I put 3 or 4000 trouble-free rounds through my current EDC and didnt do anything but oil it. Thankfully its a stainless pistol, I had to blast it when I finally decided to clean it.

I never see anyone post pictures of the Grand Raptor II. Is there any particular reason for that? I came so close to buying one last year and passed though. I just don't see too many people post pictures of them or even really talk about them. For me, they're my favorite Kimber.

four of my five Kimbers:

Custom II
Pro Carry II
Raptor II
Ultra Raptor II

I've wanted an MC operator for a while. Actually, I wanted a mil-spec operator to modify to my taste, but they've been discontinued for a while now.
