I want to see some Dragunov, SVD, NDM-86, Tiger, & Romak 3/PSL's! And some targets if you have them!

Not mine, but there is a PSL in there.

. . . and what, old school Russian sniper rifles aren't good enough for you? Semi-auto schmemi-auto.

Not trying to sour the thread, but I use to have a Russian SVD, sold it about 2 years ago. Targets were nothing impressive. The only rifle I have ever owned that I knew I was out shooting. A moderate M1A can easily out shoot the SVD. IMHO they are only looked up to because they are a rarity, and are over glorified by their owners due to the high price tag. I only have 2 good things to say about them: 1. they will get you all the attention you could ever want at the range, and 2. I sold mine used for more than I bought it new. :D Oh and as some do or do not know: Romak 3/PSL's have nothing in common with the SVD except the round. (Sorry but calling a Romak 3/PSL's a "Dragunov" really pevs the real Dragunov owners) ok end rant :neener:

here's mine

Had this TIGR in 7.62x54R for just over a year...just sold it last month, never shot anything amazing, but it was a fun rifle to shoot, caused alot of intrest at the range, but never because of the way it shot. I found it very reliable function wise, seldom had a stoppage but only ever used reloads, never shot it with factory ammo.

The pic of the target is one group shot at 100M, and as you can see it's nothing to get excited about. Bear in mind this was with good quality reloads, Lapua 155 Scenars, Lapua Brass and VIT N135.

NDM-86 Dragunov in .308 w/168gr match ammo is surprisingly accurate. My personal best 4-shot ctc group at 100yds is .44". My personal best 3-shot ctc group at 100yds is .24". My personal best 3-shot ctc group at 500m is 4.5" (using a cheap Russian 8x scope and me not a trained distance shooter). My most recent test was 20 shots rapid fire (no more than 4 seconds between shots except when changing the mag) at 1,000yds w/a 50% hit ratio (see target pic, slight wind caused all the misses to be slightly off target to the left).

The lack of a true lightweight match bullet prevents the 7.62x54 SVD's from realizing their full accuracy potential.

Tomac...that middle one is purdy!

I've got the PSL just waiting for my Transfer Dealer to get in. And I'm very aware of the differences between the PSL and a Dragunov! I just didn't want to exclude you in my request for pictures. I'd love to be purchasing a Dragunov but not for the money they currently go for! I'll be handloading some ammo but also shooting bulk to keep cost down.

Dragunov = short stroke gas piston, like a FAL
PSL = long stroke gas piston, like an AK

Basically the PSL is a giant AK.

Big differences. The PSL is a modified AK, the Dragunov is a different rifle, kind of an evolution hybrid of an AK and an SVT. It has a short-piston gas system on a milled receiver using an evolved AK trigger/safety setup.

They serve an identical role and are similar in accuracy, though Drag owners will say the SVD is more accurate. I'll grant that, but the PSL serves the same purpose in combat. I would wager the PSL is more rugged. Yeah, the SVD has a milled receiver, but the gas system is more fragile (but not fragile). That said, the PSL does not need heavy bullets fired from it regularly.

In any case, in a practical world, they are the same. Nobody should expect bolt-action accuracy out of either one (no, you shouldn't). At this point in time, the PSL is a better bang for your buck. SVD's are very expensive, even the denuded sporter versions.

A Druganov has a short stroke. Not sure what that means, since I don't own one, but a PSL stroke is quite long, and it is basically an AK. Theoretically, the SVD is more accurate. It is certainly not a "sniper Rifle" by western stnadards, and is more along the lines of a "marksman rifle, like redeployed M-14's are being used as now. One of these days, I'm going to have a shoot out at 200 yards between my M-1A, Saiga 308, and PSlL. It should be interesting...Here are most of my AK's, the PSl is at the top.
