I use shook-up soda cans, they go BANG and fly in the air with a mighty splash when shot.

Especially with .308 ;)

Has anyone ever shot a mannequin? I thought about trying to get one, but then found out how expensive those things really are and how infrequently clothing stores get rid of them.

For me, it's junk targets (mostly tin cans) on an old wooden sawhorse. Junky little plastic toys work pretty well too.

That's one of the reasons why private property rules over most gun ranges. Around me, most ranges only let you used "pre approved" paper targets and nothing else. They won't even let you use silhouette paper targets, and they make it clear in the rules when they put "NO JUNK TARGETS" in all caps.

here's mine.

Nobody else has homemade steel targets? Mine is weak compared to the OP but I've yet to buy a welder.

I used a disc from a farm harrow. I've used it with .45 and .22's. Don't tell anyone but I plugged it with a few .223's.
