It was my foray into AKMs. Just a trial. But I turned out to love it. This gun has been thrown around and not taken care of that well. It's decently accurate. (have no problems hitting steel at 250 yards) I bought it for $350....
I like it just enough.

*This was/is also a testing bed

I would REALLY like to get an Arsenal in 5.45
I handled one the other day and it was night and day. So much nicer, in every way. I am interested in how much more accurate it is (the round and the rifle)

Here is what I've done with mine:

K-Var Handgaurd
K-Var Scope Mount
TAPCO AK-74 Style Muzzle Brake
TAPCO magazines (they work fine in my rifle?!?!?)
Mako GLR16 Stock
Mako GLR16 Cheek Riser
US Palm Battle Grip
Echo Nine Three Single Point Sling Attachment Point V-2 (Cannot recommend this enough)
Leatherwood Hi-Lux CMR 1-4x 24mm

All of this is getting transferred to my Arsenal when I get one. It's a nice little rig. Couple thousand rounds through it, two failures (bad Wolf primers, same box). Less than a thousand invested. You can see just how poor the finish is.... :neener:

looks like a lot of money put into a cheap AK. a wasr is a wasr is a wasr till you dump lots of money into them and make them an expensive wasr....makes no sense.

I am picking up an Arsenal within a month. I have been accumulating the parts for 6 months. Couldn't afford the Arsenal 6 months ago.
The scope and rings are the most expensive thing at $400 and those can go on anything.

So imagine this without the scope and would be $600

It makes no sense unless you shoot for the pure fun of shooting, and love to own an ultra reliable hi-speed high-capacity gun that is reasonably cheap to shoot. ;)

I own lots of ARs,AKs and shoot for lots of reasons including fun, like I said a wasr is a wasr, I was in the service in the early 70s during the "war games" every chance we got we picked up an AK instead of usiing our piece of crap M16s. I do know a good AK when I see and shoot one and a wasr is on the low end.

An AK is an AK is an AK.
WASR is perfectly fine. Accurate and reliable.
I'll have a few pics later. I love mine, but I'll be getting a Saiga and tacticooling it.

Ouch, really? Why do that to a quality, Russian AK, so close to the real deal?

^Don't make me feel bad about it. There is nothing here that doesn't have it's use.

I have a 15inch LOP btw

I completely enjoy the AK's. Shooting, rebuilding and just plain tinkering. WASR's have become my personal favorite. Their udder simplicity, durability and lack of anything even remotely complex makes them what they are.
There is a Fantastic AK article in the October 2011 G&A magazine "The All American AK" by former soviet soldier "Marco Vorobiev" I'm in no way trying to promote a specific magazine, Just calling attention to what I thought was an extremely well written and informative article on this very subject.

Funny you mentioned that article. I really liked it too. :) To the OP: I shot a WASR this July, and had no issues with it. I also have seen plenty of broken WASRs. While Century guns may have issues, apparently yours doesn't. So shoot it till it breaks (or Doomsday, whichever comes first), and ignore the naysayers. Enjoy!

nice wasrs guys, wow i hope to see more pics other than.............you know what. i have 3 romanian type aks, and gonna add a wasr 10/63 to the list:)

Very true. As much fun as the WASRs are I would also grab a higher quality AK if I could. Thats why I converted a Saiga S308 for instead of buying a wasr. I'm not an expert on AK's, but it seems like a converted saiga is better quality than most AKs here in the U.S.

I've had 2 century aks and never had problem. Ended up selling them due to budget issues. I will get one again. I'll post pics when I get home.

im just going to pick a saiga, wasr's arnt worth the $400 theyre sold for, at least century builds arnt

Spoken like someone who doesn't quite know the real deal regarding WASR's. For one, there are no "Century builds". Century is an importer. They IMPORT COMPLETE rifles, then make them 922 compliant with the required US parts, and the mag wells are milled out to accept standard AK mags. They don't BUILD anything. Furthermore, while there are certainly WASRs with some issues, things like canted sights or gas blocks are FAR less common on the WASRs imported the last several years. The WASR...if you can inspect it before purchase, is a totally acceptable entry level AK. It will do everything most people desiring such a rifle and realistic about its limitations, will ever expect it to.

Mine has been 100% so far but only about 500rds so far.

All I did was refinish the wood...didn't want to get a splinter! :)

To put it bluntly, its an abomination to turn an AK to an AR clone somewhat, vice versa . Keep the looks original if at all possible. Other than that its a waste of money on accessories to make it tacticool. Rather spend that money on ammo.

Since saigas are in abundance its just silly to pass one over at $300 to buy a WASR
