Hey everyone,
I need some advice on my recent AK 74 purchase...did i get a good deal, did I get screwed, etc. Please let me know.

I just purchased, for $600 + shipping, a SAR-2 AK74 in 5.45x39.
Here's the actual listing: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=196034342

The seller says that the rifle comes with:

Vltor "AR" style stock tube with Vltor modstock (kit retails for about $200)

Romanian 22mm front sight base installed with US-made "AK-74" brake (these are almost impossible to find now - everyone has the more common Bulgarian 24mm)

Texas Weapons Systems’ “dogleg” scope rail (retails for $129)

Konus (manufacturer) Sight-Pro Atomic Red Dot Sight 1x 20mm 4 MOA Dot with Weaver-Style Mount (retails at $99 at MidwayUSA)

TAPCO "M249" grip and K-Var polymer fore-end.

Comes with w 30-round magazines. More available to winner of auction.

I am just concerned as to why it was "refinished with Duracoat"???
Do you think that is something I need to be concerned about?

Thanks so much for your help everyone!;)

Jonny

I think you did alright. Im not sure of the origin of the SAR rifles though.

Lots of people Duracote guns because its a very durable coating.

It looks like you did ok on this.
Many Ak's are built here from foreign parts matching color is most likely the reason for the dura coat.
I paid $425 recently for a Side folding 7.62x39 Rom or Hungarian still in the box.
I would get some more mags for yours incase they get scarace.
Ammo in 5.45 is down now so stock up.
Good luck and have fun shooting.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the words.
The only real unknown is how many rounds have been put through the rifle, but considering this seller is selling another AK in a very similar setup, I think it's probably been taken good care of.
Nalioth, thanks for the informative link too!
I'll post pics of my own and how it does at the range once I get it in. :)

I don't think you did too bad at all i bought a Bulgarian AK-74 a few months back for $389 with ship and four 30 round mags and a bayonet its has a Nodak receiver and a G2 trigger, the add on's your rifle has, will add up fast making your AK a fair deal . I installed a 4x32 mill dot scope and a tactical light on mine. Have fun with it!

$600 for a modded SAR2 is a good deal.

The Bulgarian AK74 and Polish Tantel are parts kit guns (US made reciever & US made non-chrome lined barrel), whereas the SAR2 was imported as a complete rifle (Romanian made reciever & chrome lined barrel).

As with any AK build, it will be tough to know how much it has been fired, and any new one might have a U.S. made barrel, which will not be chromed. Since most all the ammo to be shot is semi-corrosive (Russian military from yesteryear), not having a chorme bore is a bit of a concern, but not if one is dilligent in cleaning properly, and SOON after firing. I have an AK74 that my brother built from an honest-to-God virgin rifle cut up for parts....the gun had never been issued. All parts matched, and it came as a kit with unissued bayonet, etc. The Century guns could be low round count, or the barrel half worn. With all the aftermarket parts, your gun looks like a good deal. The Dogleg TWS scope mount is like $130, IIRC. Enjhoy. Ammo is so cheap, you can shoot three times what a .223 shooter can afford for the same money.

Nor hammer forged.

Didn't you just say Century uses U.S. made barrels?
