Showin off new Hakan grips

The photo's don't do these Hakan Pek grips justice. I think I'm going to call them my Harry Potter grips- the grain morphs with the light, for an interesting and odd effect. The wood is Balbonie. The knife is by local Columbus Knife maker/student M. Shade (another THR member).

This thread sucks. I just ordered two pairs of Hakan grips, one for my P-01 and one for my buddy's Colt. I gotta wait 8 weeks before I get mine....AAARG!! Judging from all I've heard and all the pics I've seen, though, it'll be well worth the wait. There should be another Hakan thread around that time, I'll post pics then.
 
Sweet grips I really like that wood. Gonna have to look for some for some knife handles now :D Thanks for stickin my knife in the picture too, hope its holding up for you :cool:

I've not yet blooded the first one...but the year is young.

Putting it to work on a deer would be much more fun though, good luck out there.

That really is some pretty wood, an I've never even heard of it before. I'm gonna have to start shopping around.

Count me as another extremely satisfied Hakan customer. I just got my cocobolo grips from Mr. Pek yesterday, and they are truly beautiful. Pictures don't really do them justice; they are quite dark, but if I use a lot of light I get bad reflections in the image (I'm no pro photographer either).

My main source is the local woodcraft store, and their selection varies. The only stuff I can routinely find that has tight enough figure for peices like a knife handle are rosewood and cocobolo. I'm sure you go through the same thing. What looks beautiful in a 3ft board, can look pretty bland in a grip/stock/scale.
I avoid buying the select pre cut stuff cause its so darn expensive and is never the size I want.

I'll keep an eye out for some of that stuff though, really is some beautiful work :)

Tanfoglio/Witness grips are difficult but, BHP grips hopefully will be reality not too long from now :)

I hear what you say man.That IS the ultimate problem and that's why it's best when the wood has a tight grain figure.

I think Balbonie is actually some kind of Walnut and it's from California.Here is a picture of the whole block.
