I was at a gun show today and just couldn't resist picking up a few rounds of dragon's breath, #20 flechettes, and tear gas, all in 12-gauge. I justified this purchase with the rationalization that it might possibly be useful in a SHTF scenario.

So, help me out here. The lady selling it warned me not to shoot dragon's breath over open pasture ("My son did that and we had to call the fire department!"), since the cartridges claim to shoot fire the length of a football field.

Use for dragon's breath? If the SHTF zombies are massing and you're fixin' to beat a retreat?

Use for flechettes? If the zombies are behind trees/bushes?

Use for tear gas? Unruly SHTF mob who, for whatever reasons, weren't as stocked up as us, or for gangs who see SHTF as an opportunity to loot?

Your ideas on actual uses for this stuff?

i wouldn't fire any round at anyone unless i actually had the intention of stopping them in their tracks. and for that i feel buckshot gets the job done better than any "exotic ammo".

i don't think shooting 12 guage anything at someone for looting sounds like a good idea. they could be concealing as well and now your in a gunfight over someone elses stuff.

i'll sit tight with 00 until they come after me or mine.

I would contend that even a load of the low brass #6 that I use for squirrel hunting would get someone's attention.
I know that I would most likely run like hell if someone cut loose on me with a dragon's breath but I don't know if I would return fire or not.
I do know that my likelyhood of returning fire would decrease dramatically if I were bleeding from a few 00 buck sized holes.
So I would say that any shotgun shell would be useful but some are more useful than others.
If I was going to invest in something more exotic though, it would be some of the rubber buckshot/slugs. They wouldn't be useful for every scenario but I would like to maybe be able to just bruise the hell out of someone if I could do that instead of dealing out sucking chest wounds.

Anyone who doesnt run away the instant they are looking down the barrel of a 12 guage is going to have to be put down. My thinking is that whatever accomplishes that goal in the most efficient fassion is the ammo of choice.

The only exotic purpose of a shotgun that i can think of is more applicable to LE/ less than lethal and for line-launching.

I was thinking that for the most effective werewolf/vampire/zombie stopper round, you would need holy water & garlic-filled silver buckshot, topped off with wodden crucifix fleschettes :D

For anything else, I'll stick with my 3"Mag #4 Buck and PMC brand slugs

foghornl,

If you build it - they will buy it.

I'm sure a "testimonial" from Preacherman wouldn't hurt.
Lessee, MY 10% for encouragment, Preachers's 10% ...hey at 80% you're still gonna retire young and rich.
Just put "tactical" in carbon fiber lettering on the box somewhere.

;)

I could put my theoolgical stamp of approval on that and make it stick since I'm a legally registerred minister of the universal life church (an outfit that ordains ministers for free so they can start their own religions). I originally did it so i could start up a tax deductable church of the minute of angle.
