Side by side with hammers?

Don't know if it is worth a hoot, but there is a Century JW Coach gun on Gun Broker right now for less than $300. Looks kinda neat. Any of your old hammer guns are either crap or above my pay grade.

Years ago Sarco was selling some English SXS hammer guns. I bought 2. One is nitro steel and the other is damascas (sp) barrels. I should shoot the one if i ever get time.

Do the hammers have to be functional? Cimarron makes a nice coach gun with semi-functional hammers (they cock the action but do not fully close on firing)

Bernadelli makes a very good SXS with hammers. The lower grades go for about this much in good shape. I always wanted one in 12 gauge to make into a Lupara . Arguably better gun than the very good old soviet made Baikal outside hammer guns , one of which I do have these last 35 years. 20" ic and modiefied with chrome lined barrel!

If you're looking for a low priced one, Norinco makes a side by side coach gun with external hammers. I had one for a few years, they aren't bad for the price. I think they are like $300 new lol.

The TTN coach gun is popular in cowboy action shooting, but is no longer marketed under that name. Check out the offerings at Cimarron Firearms. I'm told the CZ hammered double is beautiful but a bit rough on the inside.

L.C. Smith, Baker, And Ithaca made hammer shotguns in the past. Some with damascus, some with fluid steel barrels. Most were proofed for nitro powder.

I also have the.....

......Baikal with functional hammers. It's been a solid woods-bumming gun for me for a little while now. Baikal has two types of hammer guns. One type has functional hammers such as my own. The other type cocks internal hammers. I had my gunsmith put a LimbSaver on mine. They come with steel butt plates that'll kill your shoulder with regular shooting. Also had sling swivels installed. Next thing I want to get done is have my automatic safety changed to just a manual one.

A couple have said Baikal and you can't go wrong with one. Don't know how hard to find they are right now, but if they're proving difficult, Century is the next best option. Total price for a Century coach gun will be less than $400 after taxes and shipping/FFL fees are factored in.
