Gentlemen:

I have a spanking new stainless Sig 1911. I ran about 200 rounds of Federal 230 grain ball through it without a single hitch. Cleaned the pistol thoroughly thereafter.

Today I ran some Federal 185 grain Hi Shok (not the Hydra Shok). I had several failure to feeds and several slide lock failures (where the slide did not lock back after the final cartridge was expended, but returned to the fire position). I thought this was probably a problem with the ammo I was using. But, I experienced the same problem with the Federal 230 grain ball that had performed flawlessly on the prior outing (albeit, with a lot fewer of the aforementioned problems). I ran a magazine of expensive Hornady nickel 230 grain HP's through it, which feed with authority and with no trouble (but only 8 rounds). The Hornady "felt" more powerful.

What do you think the issue(s) is/are? Thanks!

The other suggestion I would try, is buy 1 or 2 Chip McCormick 8rd PowerMags. I run these in all my full size steel frame 1911s (two of which are Sigs) and have not had any problems (in my alloy frame 1911s, I like to run Wilson Combat mags). I have heard some other Sig 1911 owners on other boards that have had feeding and/or slide locking issues with their factory stock supplied mags and the issues went away when they bought quality aftermarket mags (such as CMCs, Wilson Combat, Tripps, etc.). I haven't myself had any issues with the supplied mags that came with my Sig 1911s, but I do much prefer CMC 8rd PowerMags to the Sig supplied mags. If you still have issues with your new 1911 with new quality aftermarket mags, I would then give Sig customer support a call for sure and have them repair your pistol under warranty. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'll try new mags. Yet I didn't heavy any problems until I put the 185 grain Hi Shoks through it. With that said, I have no clue as to what is causing the slide not to lock. Is that a pistol malfunction or can it be related to a magazine issue?

Have you tried inserting an empty magazine and racking the slide back. If it locks back, it isn't a gun issue; if it does, it is either a mag or ammo problem

Thanks, I'll try that and get back. And yes, I clean and oil after every range session. I use Mobile One, but am considering some Slip Steam. I don't know why, frankly, as Hoppe's gun oil has worked fine in my revolvers.

I have a sig xo 1911 that was having slide lock problems when I first got it a few weeks ago. I tried a slide stop out of my kimber and the started working fine. Now about 400 rounds later I put the original slide stop in yesterday and the gun ran fine. I guess it needed some breaking in.
(UPDATE)
I tried racking some rounds through my sig this morning and it failed to lock back again a few times. Sig sent me a new slide stop last week so i put it in and it slide locks properly. Hopefully this is the end of this.

Stainless autos like special lubes designed for stainless on stainless action. Otherwise they gall.

That used to be true when stainless guns were first made. It is not true anymore.
