I am curious what could have caused my failure to feed in my pretty new Springfield Armory Mil Spec 45 ACP. I have about 300 rounds through the gun...using mostly ball ammo..all 230 grain FMJ Remington or Win white box cheap ammo....one box of that Win SXZ FMJ (no problems).and a little Remington Golden Saber 230 grain hollowpoints...no problems.....yesterday first time for problem...tried a box of the Win SXZ hollowpoints 230 grain from bass pro....totally clean gun..lubed...had one failure to feed out of fifty....the old shell ejected fine but the new shell would not even feed into the chamber...almost locking the gun up.....I'm trying to figure out if this is a Mag problem...a gun problem...or do these guns just not like Win SXZ hollowpoints..I had ten rounds left in my box and shot the rest of the ammo...the unspect cartridge looks ok..haven't shot it yet..it's at home....I was using the factory 7rd mag that came with the gun....no mods have been made to the gun....Thanks for your help

Did you try feeding that round through the mag again to see if it would chamber? Could be a slightly out of spec round, could be that the rounds weren't seated all the way into the mag, could just be a fluke one in 300+ plus occurrence.

I was able to pick up a Wilson Combat 8 round mag from a local gun store in Memphis today....I couldn't wait to order anything else from out of town!!! I am not patient when it comes to the mail order deal! Anyhow...I bought 50 rounds of Winchester white box 230 grain JHP's from Wal Mart...and a small box of the Winchester PDX 230 grain JHP's also at Wal Mart (that is expensive at over a dollar a pop!)...I wanted to see what would happen with two different kinds of hollowpoints......i loaded the mag full...and sometimes halfway with the cheap white box hollowpoints....no problems..fed smooth..ejected fine...same thing with the new winchester premium hollowpoints...I did keep 8 of the premium to leave in the gun after I finished shooting at the gun club.

I was pretty pleased because I did not clean the gun from my last range session...I thought if nothing else...leave it dirty...really see what would happen....so it functioned fine dirty with the Wilson 8 rd mag...and two different brands of 230 grain hollowpoints...I shot two handed and one handed to see about that limp wristing that some folks have just in case....nothing....when I get some funds I'll pick up some more wilson mags at the gun store in Memphis and not use the cheap GI style mags......just need to clean the 1911 and my 642 in the morning (it's been HOT around 100 degrees) and put the 1911 back in the night stand and rest at peace knowing the 1911 works.

You...are...killing me...with your...James...T...Kirk...written...imitation. Perhaps...you...should...consider...writing...using normal...punctuation....

Out of spc round or a mag issue woudl be my first checks. When I finally got tired of mag issues with 1911's I went to only using Wilson mags. No mag issues since.

Yes, I looked at the ammo and it appeared to be of good quality when I initially had failure to feed with the 230 grain Golden Saber and 230 grain Win SXZ JHP. I was using the old 7 round mag that came with the gun. I have heard good things about Wilson mags and was glad that the gun shop I use in Memphis had a lot of them on hand. I haven't run ball ammo through my pistol yet with the Wilson mag, but I think that it should run fine if it can handle the cheap and expensive Winchester hollowpoints. My next step is to buy some more Wilson mags and support a company from my homestate!
