Due to the increased cost of ammo, I need to switch to 22 LR for training.

I currently have a Ruger 22/45 and an Advantage Arms 22 Conversion kit for my Glock. The problem is that the 22/45 is made for right handed shooters with the safety on the wrong side and the AA conversion frequently jams (it has new springs and over 5K rounds on it). This leads me to try other conversion kits and I'm big on SIGs. I've always wanted a 22 LR kit for my SIGs.

Does anyone have one of these kits? How has it performed? What ammunition works with it?

I carry a Sig P220 .45 auto for duty. Faced with the same $$ woes during my free time, but still wanting to practice with the "same weapon", I bought a P220 in .22 L/R as well. I've only put a few down the pipe so far, but I've really enjoyed it. I've been using Winchester Super-X (high velo.) with no problems so far.

-For an extra $300.00 I can get the P220 slide, barrel and mainspring to convert back to .45
-It's the SAME lower as a regular P220
-The .22 slide is lighter, the spring tension is less, and the barrel is obviously smaller at the INNER diameter, but the ouside diameter is still the same.

Due to the engineering, however, the slide DOES NOT LOCK OPEN after the last round (normal). The extractor is built right in to the barrel, so works essentially "in reverse" of the stock extractor. The mags are a poly/plastic too, which will be interesting to see how they hold up to abuse vs. metal. These are the only two "gripes" I have about the sidearm though. ENJOY!!

If you're looking at these, try to find a version that comes with the frame of an elite, and comes with a coupon for a certified pre-owned 9mm 226 slide, then you get the best of both worlds. I saw one for sale at the gun show the other day

I got one of the kits for my 226, and love it. So far I have about 500 rounds through it. Had 4 or 5 failure to go into battery in the first 50 rounds, and since then it's worked perfectly.
I have been using the CCI Mini Mag, and some Federal, from Wal Mart, that come in an off white box. I think they have 300 rounds and cost about $14.00.
The only down side I have heard people complain about is the lack of the slide locking back when empty. You can peen the edge of the chamber if you dry fire it too much, so you do have to keep track of your round count.

Trigger

The trigger is great! Yes...it breaks the same as with the P220. Again, the lower frame, trigger assembly, hammer, etc. is all the same. Just the slide, spring, and barrel are different. It's funny actually.....(I'll try to add a pic. soon) but the P220 ramp (the first 1/2 or so) is built right into the frame. On the .22 conversion they actually extend the mag a bit to reach a "new" ramp that is part of the .22 barrel. Kind of cool the way they did it but will it lead to feed problems??? Remains to be seen. Like I mentioned before, I'm interested to see what happens with the plastic/poly mags over time......

B.T.W. mine came with the cupon too, so it's not just offered with the 226. My local shop even said if I order it through him he'll give me an additional $50.00 off!!!

Thanks everyone. I ordered a P220 conversion kit rather than pay for the frame. I have enough P220's that one frame can be "sacrificed".

Correction!!!

My bad......

The extractor IS the same as on a P220 .45 slide.
The .22 barrel just has an "extractor looking" arm that comes out of it that acts as a guide to keep the .22 shell in line due to all the space that is "left over". Sorry for the mis-info. Still a great weapon!!
