I'm going to purchase a Sig 220 in the next week or so. It's my first gun. Although I have shot few over the years. I'm not real familiar with the different finishes that come on them. What is the best way to go? Stainless? Black? Which finish holds up the best. The Sig 220 Stainless that I have been considering buying has a texture type finish. Would I be better off with the black model? Also I have been told that the stainless has been discontinued. Also they took it off their web site. I herd that they might be replacing the stainless with a new Nickel finish. I wonder if there was some type of problem with the Stainless?.
Another question I have is. Are night sites a good thing to have for at night. And are they harder to see during the day.
One more question I have is. I have also been looking at the Sig 1911 Revolution. If it was up to you which model would you buy? This gun well be used for home defense. And at the range as often as possible. Probably every three or four weeks. I have seen and held the P 220 Stainless and it feels good to me. Nice solid.Full size automatic. But at the same time I have read lots of articles from people that can't say enough about that 1911 Revolution. Problem is know one has a Revolution for a hundred miles. Looks like I would have to order it on line. Or have a local shop order it for me without seeing it first. They are both around the same price. What are the pros and cons of these two guns. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks Dave

Get the new one. It's stainless, but black nitron over that.

It's also the world's second greatest .45ACP handgun ever. Get the P220, definitely. Get the night sights, because it's cheaper to get the gun with them than to add them leter. Get the black one, because it's stainless anyway.
Whatever you do, definitely DO GET A SIG 220! They are wonderful pistols.
I'm a 1911 fanatic, and have five of them. That said, if I could only have one handgun for the rest of my days, it would be a Sig P220.

the P220 is the best shooting gun i have ever had the pleasure of shooting..but the downside is , now i want one lol:what:

I like the two-tone Sig 220s. The discontinued stainless model is heavier than the other models, so take that into consideration. Also, there are different trigger types available (DA/SA, DAK, SAO), so decide which one you may want.

Buy the Sig, any Sig

I've got a P220 Stainless. It's got some tool marks on the slide, nothing major.

Bascially, the P220 Stainless just has a bead blasted finish. Meaning, it's just the natural color of the stainless steel. Unfortunately, sometimes the steel between the slide and frame isn't the same color (like mine.) The slide for instance is forged, so maybe that's why it's a little darker than the frame.

It is really easy to find imperfections in the stainless model. So I'm having mine finished in Nitron. It's going to look sweet.

That said, the Sig is my most favorite gun. Good god, I love it!!!! It shoots the best out of all my guns. If I had to throw away all my guns except one, I'd keep my Sig.

I could brag about my P220 all day... Mine has the regular ol' Nitron finish, and I think it's about time to send it to SIG for a facelift.. Mine's looking a little aged. :neener:

But the way it shoots... :p It's easily the most accurate pistol in my entire collection.. it's like the thing just aligns itself with the "X" on the target every single time. :D The P220 an amazing gun. You can't go wrong with either, and I think it would be hard to make a better choice for your first home-defense pistol.

Welcome to THR!

Welcome Aboard My Friend

I'm an old timer, and set in my ways. A standard blued, West German
SIG-SAUER .45 caliber P220A was my "bacon saver" during my days
as a LEO. If I were hitting the streets for a 2nd tour of duty; I would
not have any reservations 'bout toting the same weapon.;)

Just my opinion~! :D

Thanks for all the help. I bought the Sig 220 All stainless frame and slide. It's heavy but feels good and solid. I also bought the one with the night sights. Now I just have to wait the ten day's till I can pick it up. My son tells me the ten days seems like forever. It's almost been one day and I'm doing ok so far. Tomarrow I pick up my safe or residential cabinet. I decided to go with the Winchester from Sam's club. $589 60 x 30 x 22. Thanks again for the help. Dave
Only nine and a half days to go

I bought the Sig 220 All stainless frame and slide.

You did goooooood, grasshopper. :D Congratulations!

I also bought the one with the night sights.

Nice! Some people say night sights are over-hyped... I wonder if any of those folks ever had a pistol with night sights. I want them installed on all of my defense pistols. Once again, good work!

Now I just have to wait the ten day's till I can pick it up.

OUCH!

My son tells me the ten days seems like forever.

No waiting period where I live, but I bought a pistol online once... it took about 10 days to get here. I thought I was surely going to go insane in the meantime. :p But eventually, it got here, and all was well. Those 10 days were something though... all I thought about was my gun. I hope it's easier for you than it was for me!

It's almost been one day and I'm doing ok so far... Only nine and a half days to go

:D

Just try not to think about it... Then next Saturday or so, you can go pick up your brand new pistol, and that'll give you some time to stack up some ammo and other necessities/accessories while you wait.

Congratulations on a great purchase! I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Does anyone have some suggestions what else I will need besides ammo, ear plugs and a cleaning kit? And some type of bag to carry it all in? Thanks Dave
Dang them bullets are expensive!

I thoroughly enjoy the Blackhawk Serpa kydex holster for my 220. Very comfortable and has the retention lock. They run about $45 at Gander Mountain. This is after trying 3 different leather holsters...

I bought my 220 used (it's a 95) and it's been flawless in operation. Not one single problem, at least after 300 or so rounds...which isn't much, but still impressive to me. The night sights are faded but still glow a little.

I won't be selling this gun for a long time.
