I just called a gun shop about an hour away from here and insquired about a Sig 245 that they had used for sale. A buddy told me about it yesterday. Practically brand new (no visible wear anywhere really), 3 mags, and 2 leather holsters to go with it. Asking price? $550.

So, I called and it's spoken for already. A long standing customer said he'd be in with the money on Saturday. Drats!

... but he does have the above deal. I don't know much about Sig prices really. I checked some aucton sites so it seems good to me... factory warranty for 1 more year because of the refurbishing.

Not sure if I should pick this up or not. I love the feel of Sigs in my hand but I don't own one yet.

Factory Reconditioned Sigs

I asked my dealer about a factory recond. P-220 last week. He said a Grade 1 (nearly indistinguishable from new) with nite sites, 2 mags, papers, box, and warranty would run just under $500.00. Grade 2 would be about $460.00 and would have some visable holster wear but be in the same mechanical condition with the same warranty. These are LEO trade-ins I am told.

Also last week I found a barely used like new P-220 at a reputable pawn shop gun dealer. They wanted $500.00 and the pawn shop owner whoom I was dealing with wouldnt budge on the price. This gun came with standard sites, only one mag and no box, papers, warranty, or anything else. I told him about the factory recond. deal from my dealer and he got on the phone. He returned and offered me the Grade 1 or 2 for $10.00 less than my normal dealer. I told him that I was not interested in the factory recond. deal from him but wanted a better price on the used P-220 he had in stock. He refused and said he thought the gun was priced right at $500.00.

Now the way I think is that this factory program will have to change the market on used Sigs. This will be a blessing to Sig buyers and a curse to Sig sellers and owners.

What do you think?

Why would I pay the same or more for a used gun with less desirable sights, only one mag, no box, no papers, and no warranty? Maybe I will go back and talk to him again next week.
