Sig P226 grip and sight question

I picked up a Sig P226 this weekend. I must say that I really like the way this gun feels in my hand. You can tell that this gun is manufactured well. The take down and re-assembly were a breeze. I spent a lot of time cleaning and getting familiar with the new girl.

Put 350 rounds down range on Saturday. This gun shot great out of the box.


A couple of questions. Should I try some Houge grips? The factory grips seem ok...but I like the sticky feel of Houge grips.

Sights. What options/price range in terms of sights. The factory sights are ok but I would like to upgrade. What about laser sight options/price range?

Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.

Then buy a set of Hogue grips. Try Trijicon night sights. Crimson Trace laser grips are around the $175.00 mark. In my opinion laser aiming devices are last ditch for accuracy if you put atleast 500rds down range and still can't hit the broadside of a barn. Laser aiming devices can be used to help steady the gun when learning to pull the trigger.

I put Hogue wrap-around grips on my Sig P229, and I love them. They feel so great. Hogue also makes standard grips without finger grooves, and wood grips, too. The rubber ones make the grip slightly larger. The good thing is if you have trouble reaching the trigger with Hogue grips you can also get a short trigger from Sig. The best thing is that Hogue grips are only ~$19.

As far as sights, if you didn't get the Siglite night sights from the factory, you can check out Meprolights, Trijicon, or XS Sight Systems. XS makes the "Big Dot", which is great for CQB and the like. I believe Sig's factory night sights are Trijicon.

I don't know much about laser sights. I stay away from them for the most part, considering how expensive they are. IMHO, an M3 tactical light would be much more useful... but that's just me.

The 226 is my absolutely favorite gun to shoot- I'm happy you are liking yours!

I personally vastly prefer the Hogue rubber grips to the stock Sig grips myself.
(I you like finger grooves, there's also a Hogue grip option with those as well- I like them.)

A friend of mine has Crimson Trace lasergrips on his Sig, and I really liked them quite a bit as well, but of course they are considerably more expensive than Hogue grips (over $175-$200). There are a number of threads here on THR on the proper use of laser sights, and they're worth a look.

Tritium sights are nice to have, and run in the $75-100 range.

17 and 20 rd. mags

I have seen some 17 and 20 round clips for my gun. Has anyone else purchased these extra capicity clips? Any feed back on performance? Will they fit flush on my gun?
