Hey guys. Ive got SIG 229 with a DA/SA trigger. I like it alot and I am considering getting a 226 for winter carry, or maybe its just because i like buying guns. I know i am going to get it in .40. my only real question is the trigger group: DA/SA or DAK. anyone have any experience using both?

I’ve owned and shot both, however the decision is more of a personal preference. Like with any other trigger system, you’ll find folks that like them and others who do not. Your best bet is to try to find a gun shop that carries a SIG with a DAK trigger that you can handle prior to purchasing one. In my case, I have several pistols which utilize SA, DA/SA and DAO triggers and I shoot them all pretty well. A few years ago I decided to purchase a SIG which had the DAK trigger based upon reviews that I read. After a good deal of dry firing and several range sessions I decided that the trigger wasn’t for me. I simply could not adapt to it and shoot it accurately. I purchased it for a very good price and in the end decided to have it converted to DA/SA, which I now enjoy shooting. Good luck with your decision.

The DAK is really a *weird* trigger set up. It's not like any other "double action only" trigger out there in that there are actually *two* different trigger reset points.

The first reset gives you a relatively short trigger travel and a relatively heavy trigger pull. If you decide not to fire then and let the trigger up completely, the second reset point gives you a longer trigger travel distance, but a lighter trigger pull.

I put about 100 rounds through a DAK 226 at the Sig Arms Academy a couple years back and I couldn't decide if I liked the system or not.

I really would have prefered a system with only one reset and a trigger pull somewhere between the "light" and "heavy" pulls.

If you already like the standard DA/SA Sig system, you might be better off sticking with that rather then having one Sig with DA/SA and a second with the DAK. They are that different.

I only recommend the DAK if you are a wheel gunner by trade. It is super smooth but it is long. There is a short reset point but it takes a long time to get used to.

If you are not a wheeely guy at heart go DA/SA

I have both a P229-DAK and P239-DAK that I specifically bought for carry. In my view, DAO is the only way to go for concealed carry. Wonderful trigger (better than HK’s LEM in my view) and 100% reliable.

It takes some getting use to for sure. However, if you're a DAO fan it's great. I'm not really a DA fan but my 229 DAK shot too well for me to pass up. Bought it used a few years back from the local range/fun shop. I was looking for the DA-SA version but they didn't have any so the guy behind the counter said try it, you might like it. I shot two mags worth at 10 yds and grouped better than I normally do so I went ahead and bought it.
One thing about DA shooting though. It tends to keep me from snap shooting and I think reduces flinching because the DAK trigger is so smooth and long you really don't know when it goes off. By then it's too late for me to flinch.:D
