Hello,as im deciding what to buy next the sig 226 is another pistol on my short list along with the CZ 75.But i did have some questions from owners of this beautiful masterpiece.

1.How much do mags go for?does mec gar make them for cheaper?

2.Im assuming there all metal?

3.How durable/reliable are they compared to the poly guns(glock,XD,M&P)?

4.I did hold one and it feel really good, was wondering what the cons are for these?are there any?

5.Customer support good?whats there warranty like?problems dealing with them?

6.Highly subjective, but does it warrant the price point?Any regrets or are they worth every penny you spent on it?

7.Alot of after market support for these models?Do they make conversion barrels?

Would appreciate any comments from those that own one, thanks.

1. Mags off the Sig website are $46. They are cheaper from other retailers, and Mec-Gar mags are roughly half the Sig price, even though I'm pretty sure Mec-Gar makes the factory mags.

2. The frames are alloy, the slide is stainless steel if I remember correctly.

3. They are the sidearm of the SEAL teams, if that tells you something. I carry a duty Sig (P229R DAK) and have put well over 10k rounds through it. There is more wear on the weaponlight than the weapon.

4. Some people don't like the fit of the old Sig grips, but they have the new E2 grips and a conversion kit for the old ones if you want it.

5. No experience with this.

6. Sigs have actually come down in price, at least since I bought my last one. If price is a sticking point, I personally think you can do just as well with a Glock, but if it is the Sig you like and it feels good, then I would say it's worth it.

7. If you guy the .40, Sig has a conversion barrel for the .357 Sig. They also have a .22 conversion that you can use for some cheaper practice. I don't know about .40 to 9mm barrels.

Hope this helps.

You can get the P226 ST with a stainless steel frame as well. Conversion barrels can be had from Bar-Sto. They are quite robust. They are very accurate. Stay away from early 2000s vintage ones as they have soft slides (had three).

Sigs have wonderful triggers! For HD, duty, zombies, .... great guns. I find them too big for CC though.

1.How much do mags go for?does mec gar make them for cheaper?

Usually factory magazines go for around $30. Mecgar makes a wide variety wth my favorite the flush fit 18 round for the P226 that I usually can pickup on sale for around $23.

2.Im assuming there all metal?

Yes with typically an alloy frame though stainless steel frame models are also available. Slides on earlier, up to about 1997, P226s were folded carbon steel while later and current model P226s are typically milled stainless steel slides that add about 2 ounces to the weight of the P226.

3.How durable/reliable are they compared to the poly guns(glock,XD,M&P)?

The P226 is extremely reliable and durable however it needs to be well maintained to insure long reliable life being that the steel slide rides on a alloy frame. The frame rails need to be kept well lubed and the recoil spring needs to be changed at least every 5000 rounds though many do it at 3000 rounds.

4.I did hold one and it feel really good, was wondering what the cons are for these?are there any?

The cons could be the extra weight of the metal frame that make CCW more challenging but at the same time many find it easier to shoot because of the extra weight and the DA/SA trigger action that while still many prefer a lot prefer a striker fired pistol like a Glock.

5.Customer support good?whats there warranty like?problems dealing with them?

Though I own several SIGs I have never needed to use customer support. From what I read/hear it seems that the vast majority have postivie experiences with customer support while some others have not which is not unusual for me to hear aboout most any company. I hear S&W has about the best customer support.

6.Highly subjective, but does it warrant the price point?Any regrets or are they worth every penny you spent on it?

That is a very personal decision. For me and many many others it is an an absolute yes as SIGs are what works best for me and all my SIGs have been 100 percent from round 1 and give me great pride in ownership. If others own/use pistols that are not as expensive and they work as well or better for them than a P226 I could see where they would say no. I will say that the Navy SEALs and the Secret Service among other agencies feel that SIGs are worth the premium.

7.Alot of after market support for these models?Do they make conversion barrels?

There is a lot of aftermarket support. Barsto makes a "drop in" convserion barrel so that you can use 9MM in your .40/.357 SIG P226 or P229.

I own a 1996 vintage German P226 and a 1999 vintage Exeter stainless steel slide and treasure them both.

Another Happy SIG P-226 owner.

sigarms 228 said it REAL well!

I agree with all he posted!

Can't go wrong with a P-226. :D

Lateck,

I'll just add one thing to the excellent answers thus far. The only time I've used SIG's customer service, the results were outstanding. Problem solved and the gun returned within one week with SIG taking care of the shipping both ways. The great customer service is one of the many reasons I continue to buy SIGs. Service is a valuable commodity these days.
