Hello everyone. I want to thank you all in advance. I'm looking at getting a sig 228 cpo. I really like the one that my local dealer has and I really need some advice on purchasing a used firearm. My only hangup is the price that i'm not so sure about and wanted to make sure i was making the right decision. It's 699. The reason I ask is that I can get a new M11a1 for 900. From what I've researched(google) I notice that there is a weight difference of 5 ounces being that the 228 is lighter. Although the m11a1 comes with all the bells and whistles. So basically I really need to get some advice on the price since it comes from Sig with a 1 year warranty. Oh yeah i need to make my mind up by Tuesday.

The 5 oz could be the stainless slide on the M11A1. You did not mention the magazines included with the cpo but I know you are getting more "goodies" with the M11A1 such as SRT trigger, NS and 3 (15) round mags. Good luck !

Don't know where you got the five ounce figure but that is way high The actual difference in weight between a P228 and a 9MM P229 is less than two ounces and probably closer to 1.5 ounces. Keep in mind that the weight figures you may see when using Google could be the weight with or without the magazine.

With magazine my P228 weighs 30.2 ounces as weighed on a fairly acurate scale with empty magazine.

Having fired both I really can't tell the difference and shoot both extremely well.

The CPO P228s are nice from what I have heard but at that price I would make sure it has matching serial numbers on frame, slide, and barrel keeping in mind the serial number on the barrel is not visible until the barrel is removed from the slide. I have also heard from those that have purchased CPO P228s that the slide, frame, and barrel have been refinished making it hard to determine the actual use on them. I would also make sure a CPO P228 that I was looking at did not "rattle" when shaken from side to side with the magazine inserted. I am not saying that would mean that the pistol would not be reliable and accurate but just my personal preference.

Either way you go you would be getting a teriffic top tier pistol. Here is mine that I picked up a few years ago.

Thanks for that information. I went back and you are correct about the weight. It was without the mag. I guess ill be saving for an extra month for the m11a1.

I really regret selling my P228, it was a great gun, I'd like to replace it someday, even at the prices they go for these days,
