Sig 229 or Pro Carry Kimber

My personal preference is a P229 in 357sig.

However, SWMBO carries a Micro Compact Springfield. My SIG is 'too large' in the grip for her.

What fits YOUR hand?

What's your caliber preference? If the P229 is too large around the handle, have you considered a P220 or P245, if you're after something in .45ACP?

Regards,
Rabbit.

From my experiences in the reliability dept, I'd say the SIG P229 would be the way to go. It is a little thick though. If you're looking for a .45 perhaps a P220, P220C or P245 may fit? All generally share flawless reliability.

Honestly, I'd get the 229 but in the SAS configuration. My dad has one and I'm going to see what I can cull from my collection to get my own. Should be about the same price (maybe the 229SAS wouldbe a little cheaper, but not by much). I have a Kimber TLE II that I like quite a bit, but I'm just not into carrying 1911s (don't know why, I have 6 of them and love each of them, but I never holster on up and take it with me when I go out).

Actually my first choice is the Pro Carry as Im used shooting my Colt Series 80 Govt. I like the slimness of the slide and the .45 power. But a friend of mine who s with the Border Patroll carries a SIg 228 and he somewhat facinates me with the SIg. But one thing it turns be off is the thickness of the handle and horrible DA in the first pull. Of course it has the high cap mag which is a big plus. Also the price .

As many of you know, I'm a SIG kind'a guy at heart; but lately I have
found myself carrying my Kimber 3" Stainless Ultra Carry II. I have
also discovered that it likes the open top Custom Compact Rig from
Kirkpatrick Leather; as its not a "pocket pistol"~!:D

It really always comes down to personal preference. I personally favor the Sig 229, it one of my favorite carry guns.

Conversely, I'm not a big fan of the 1911 family for concealed carry--except for the distant relatives from the Para-Ordnance LDA clan.

You are looking at two vastly different pistols. First it would be a matter of which action you prefer then which cartridge you prefer.

Of the two, SIG. (Though personally, for CCW I'd go with the P239.)

nero(Once owned a Kimber Stainless Target II 9mm that was a jamamatic....):banghead:

I've owned a few Kimbers. All are gone and now I have a Sig 229 and a Sig 239. I carry the 229 more in the colder weather, the 239 when it gets warm. Both are great guns, I haven't had a problem with either. With the Kimbers, I had to replace the extractor on all 3 just to get them to extract properly.

The kimber is slimmer and probably more compact. So the kimber would be a better way to go i think.

I have a decision as well

Trying to choose between the p229 and the cz-p01 for my CCW gun. I am going to get my CCW when Kansas starts accepting applications. Not sure which one I will go with yet. Both are great guns. Price in not a issue. Both have hi cap and are good in my hands. Gun show this weekend...maybe I will find a good deal and make the decision.

I carried a Combat Commander for about the last 30 years. I now carry a P229. I dont see any difference in wearing it or hiding it.

Realistically, its not the gun, but more what you use to carry it and your attitude. I never had any troubles carrying and hiding full size 1911's or my SIG P226's either, summer or winter.

I also have a P239 and recently got rid of a Kimber Ultra Carry. If I had to choose, I'd take any of the SIG's hands down. Out of the box, they work and work well, most 1911's of late are not that consistent or reliable, especially the smaller ones. My Ultra Carry was accurate, but was not reliable. The P239 is a great "almost" pocket pistol and is a good BUG to your carry gun and can be had in the same caliber. Its about the size of my P230's, just weighs a little more.

I agree with AK that it is no more difficult to carry the 229 than the Commander. I, on the other hand, lean toward the Commander. My 1911's have never been finicky or unreliable in any way, and I prefer the grip to that on my 229. Don't have any personal experience with Kimbers though.

I carry the SIG 229 in .40S&W and I can't complain.

Actually, I could complain until I found the right grips for it. The factory plastic grips did not work for me, the Hogue rubber grips were too "sticky" relative to my concealing garments for CCW, and the Hogue wood grips were way too thick for my tastes. I finally settled on some Nill stocks (which cost an arm and a leg) which are about the best grips you can buy.

I also installed a set of 24/7 Big Dot sights and right now I couldn't be happier.
