Well i know someone on here will have the answer for me.

I currently own a sig 229 in 40s&w. To convert it to .357sig all i need is a
.357sig barrel and new clips right? or is there more too it?

All you need is a .357sig barrel. The magazines for the .40S&W are the same for .357sig. A factory Sig barrel will drop right in - no fitting required.

oh i plan on it im just looking at options because the wife said i cant get a new gun.....but she didnt say anything about a barrel

I have a .357sig barrel for both my P229 and my P239. I've only shot .357sig about 3 times with the two of them. The price of .357sig ammo is just plain stupid. You can buy 1 and 1/2 boxes of .40S&W to each box of .357sig :fire:

The .40 229 will accept the .57 barrel AND a 9mm conversion --- and use the same mags for all! (You can easily fit 12 rds of 9mm in a 10 rd .40 mag; .357, being essentially a .40 case, will keep the same capacity.)

So what you are telling me??? I have a 229 .40 and a Barstow .357 barrel. I know how these work. BUT, are you saying I can get a 9mm barrel and shot cheap practice ammo of 9mm??? without any other modifications? If that's the case I'm buying another 229. 1. Because it's the best handgun I have ever owned. 2. Because I can now shoot cheap ammo out of it!!! Please any and all that can confirm respond.

Yes, I have a Sig 229, bought in .40. Put a Bar Sto 9mm in it, runs great. No new mags. Don't have the .57 barrel, though.

The smaller barrel in the 229 9m means they didn't bore out a larger cavity for width of the barrel.

But the larger caliber .40s&w 229 just needs a thicker, 9mm barrel to take up the extra room. Does that make sense?

Makes sense --- also means you get a sort of "bull" barrel in 9mm. Stainless, too.
PS
The Bar Sto 9mm's take awhile after you order them. Worth it, I believe. Mine's a tackdriver in 9mm. No slouch in .40, but it costs (and stings!) less in size 9.

Cost about $200.

51Cards, Do the Bar Sto P229 9mm conversion barrels require minor gunsmith fitting or are they drop-in ready (don't require fitting)? Thanks.

Mine came close to, but didn't perfectly drop in (just as Bar Sto says). It took a few passes with a stone to get it to lock up perfectly. All you need is a magic marker, a couple of stones, and attention. Took about 10 minutes. (The exact point that might possibly need attention would vary. It was really obvious and easy to accomplish.)

You need to buy it by the case. :)

Its only a dollar a box more for the 357SIG.
