Just cleaned my SIG 232 for the first time (new pistol) and after the slide was removed there is a piece on the left side of the frame above the decocker which will loosen when touched. There appears to be a spring attached and it appears to be a part of the decocking mechanism. I am familiar with semi auto disassembly and have never seen a 'loose' piece after slide removal on any other weapon.

Thoughts?

The pistol is a good shooter, so this may just be 'the way it is'.

Thanks anyone.

That is the slide catch that holds the slide open after the mag is emptied. The movement is normal... a bit annoying, but normal. I just keep a finger on it when cleaning. Enjoy your new P232.

Yeah. I've had that catch come loose while cleaning. Just hold it in place while working on the gun.

Call me crazy, but I would probably call SIG instead of asking people on an internet message board

Yea, it is made that way. Good idea to look how the spring sits, It took me a few minutes when I first feild stripped it and the catch came off. also on the right side the same is true with the trigger bar and spring. I find it is easier to remove them befor cleaning, easier than trying to hold them in place.
