i have a sig 556 7.62x39 but my queston is for you guys with the 5.56. will any buis for ar 15's work on your sig 5.56? mine did not come with a front sight but sig does sell one and the dovetail is there, but i wondered if anyone tried using regular ar 15 reer sights.

i bought a pair of buis sights front & rear specificly for the 556 because i was worried that the buis meant for an ar might not line up right with the sig buis front sight.that sig front sight is high,it might cause problems with a rear sight that might be much lower....

The 5.56 round has a different ballistic trajectory than the 7.62x39.
Midland Industries makes a fold down front sight for the Sig that works with their rear BUIS (that being really designed for the AR) so you can use this system on the 556, which is what I have now because I have an Eotech on my 556.
I also have a 556R which is now a little over a week old. It only has the Sig red dot on it. If I could find something to use for it which is designed for the Russian round I would be interested.
Aurora has a diopter sight set (front & back) for the 550 series that is said to be better than the Sig diopter, the problem is again it is for the 5.56 round.
Even the diopter sight Sig has listed for their 556R I saw on their sight is really the one for their 5.56 version. The difference in the two rounds will mean that if you put it on the 556R the higher yard marked positions won't work.
Hopefully, enough 556Rs will be sold that companies will make aftermarket options for it.
If we get REALLY lucky Sig will .... and they will work before us Beta-testers have to do our thing .....

hey tommygun have you shot yours yet? i took mine out last sunday & had about 20% failure to fire with wolf poly but only about 5% with brown bear. i only had 3 boxes of brown bear and alot of wolf, so im going back to the range tommrow to see if she does any better. other then that i love this rifle so far & the sig red dot has held up, but i don't trust it. so if this ftf problem goes away i will probably put an aimpoint on it. if you can please post a range report & overall thoughts when you get her out.

No, not yet, haven't had the time.
Your report doesn't sound too promising. My 5.56mm. version, which I have had over a year, has never failed in any way in function.
Yours sounds as though you may have a problem with the firing pin or bolt, which IIRC was a problem that cropped up on the standard 556 version from time to time as well.
I can't get out tomorrow but maybe friday .....
I'll try to remember to post when I get it out through its paces and everything.

yeah it was the first and only time i have had it out. i thought it was accurate though and the recoil was surprisingly light even though it only has a flash hider. so im still optimistic overall & if i can get this ftf straightend out i think it will be great. good luck friday & thanks for responding so fast.

there is a you tube video for a review of the 556 r by sturmgewehre and he experiences the exact same problems as i do on mine. oh well its back to sig. anybody else get a chance to try theirs out. its a shame sig used to be known for quality & reliability, what happend to them? the review is by the militaty arms channel. i hope you guys check this out before you buy one or let someone you know buy one. im not optimistic sig can fix this as i feer these problems are prevasive through all the 556 r series.
