never never land...never land here!
We received a lot of the SIG 556 rifles in various configurations today, I guess the distributor was throwing a SIG 522LR, the 22LR version of the 556 in 5.56 Nato in for free.

So being the feller I am, I bought one of the 556 Classics with the SIG Red Dot Sight on it and got the 522 free!

While I have sold several of the 556's in the past, and shot one of them ever so briefly, I have not gotten any feedback from customers on either one of these models, we only just started selling the 522, and none of us have fired one on our range yet....so the question is.....

Does anybody have any comments, good or bad on either one of these models?

As for the 556, they seem to be a well built rifle, with a fairly fast twist, It is 1/7...the 522 seems to be built well, but....we'll have to bisect it to see!

oh yeah, they are great; both of them. My boss had to have both, so we got them , and tricked them out with lights , lasers, etc. the workmanship on the 22 is as good as the 556, and it is all tight, tiiiiiigghht. they def need a little break in period. run a brick of high speed solid copper washed through them. now then, supposedly their was a prob with the bolt assy.,as it had a little c clip holding it and part of the bolt together, and you could, during dissasembly accidentally knock it off, and lose it. so if this is still the case, you may wanna go to your local Home Despot, and get some 1/8 inch c clips, keep them in the bag, and store the bag inside either your stock or the front handguards.
but the 522 is completely reliable, totally accurate, well made, and eats everything. the mags are made by black dog, they interchange with several other ar types, including the keltecs, and are also very good.
now another thing; you may get a mag that doesn't quite fit your sig, at least that was so last year-you can either shave/smooth up the sides of it a bit, or send it back to sig, and they will give you another. Seems they got a few that were too tight a while back.

Actually , for the first 6 months they came out, mmeh.. they didn't sell too much. But after that first year... wow!!! Every gunseller at the the gunshows here in houston sells both, and lots of them, in all diff types and sizes and colors, they are super popular, and cost on them is nice; one vendor down here sells the 522 for 399 plus tax, which is completely sick, that is below most folks wholesale.

I think for the 556's, maybe the best to get here is the Sig pistol; it is supernice, light and well balanced.

SIG may be up to something, seems CDNN bought a boatload of them and are throwing in for free a 522 with every 556 purchased.

Since SIG brought out their brand of AR, maybe they are going to discontinue the 556....?

There was also a $300 rebate program on the 556 till March 8th if you purchased from a SIG dealer, as soon as that ended, what was left went to sale to the various distributors, now they are trying to sell these things by offering a free 522! lol hehehe

Whatever, free is good!

I love them, I think they are the best 5.56 carbines made.

Although IMHO the 556 isn't up to the same standards as the 550, and has the crappy AR stock and mags. Since I live in a communist state where the Sig5XX series is banned I can't go out and buy a 550. So I'll eventualy caugh up for a 550 lower which is legal.

Sig better no discontinue this rifle for another damn AR.

the folding stock on both the parent and kid's model, both are very seriously overbuilt and lock up like a solid brick, and they are both accurate as all get out.
Otay, U.M., you are a gundealer type guy; what is it you think they may be up too? did they just make too many? or maybe dumping the model all together; I don't understand, they are both so good, and both are well priced...

I like my Sig 556 and hope they don't discontinue it. I got it because I hadn't heard anything bad about Sig, it looked like a good rifle, and it isn't an AR. My only complaint is how far away it ejects the brass.

Boy that 522 looks tempting. Not in the market for another rifle in .223/5.56 but a quality .22lr is always on the table for me. If somebody picks up the pair and wants out of their 522 let me know.

I don't know ranger, all I know is CDNN indicated that they 'bought them all' in two or more shipments. Could have been a systematic response or it could mean something different.

I called SIG but got absolutely nowhere with that question...funny thing though, the guy never said NO, we are not dropping them, he was rather exuberant about their new AR's though.
I don't know, I don't see SIG dropping them, maybe a design change coming... who knows. Often times CDNN and distributors like them will get large buys on design change type things.

Whatever, got meself yet another fancy .223/5.56 and a fancy, heavy 22lr that I bet you can't hit a bull in the butt with at 50 paces! lol hehehehe I needed another 22...right!

I'm so behind on sight-ins at work, I don't even want to shoot another gun for a while! But I'll make the exception and take this to the outdoor range along with my freshly finished custom 116 Sporter Savage 30-06 aka: Matilda, the Bulldozer! hehehehehe

I haven't fooled with a 556 yet to any extent, other to sell them, so your all responses are great, my nephew is chomping at the bit to rip into this thing. lol hehehehe

that is with both of them; they both will sling that brass about 10 feet!!!! seriously strong ejection. get the 522, and I promise you won't regret it, plus they come in the green furniture now as well...

Mine's been ejecting the brass a good 10 to 15 yards away, and in a wide pattern. Also been dinging a good deal of the brass. It's also been a tad picky on the STANAG mags. I have a bunch of older aluminum ones around and the Sig only liked some of them. Been doing fine with the couple of P-Mags I picked up though. I really like the way it breaks down for cleaning, like the stock, like the look and feel, safety is ok, the price was good. Overall I'm quite happy with it.

very nicely accurate! and I believe that the greenies just came out , beginning of the year...

even their own site is not updated... they now have front/rear sites, full length rails, and the swat model
has like a monolithic rail, and front forerails on all sides.

i got mine nib for 1100.00, & for that price its unbeatable.very robust action, very solid feeling.the action stays very clean, too.

I love my Sig 556 (with a Magpul stock and 551 fore end). ZERO complaints.

I would love a 556 but just can't justify spending the coin right now. Maybe sometime in the future.
So I did the next best thing, bought a 522.

What a hoot this little gun is. Eats all the ammo I run through it and have only ran cheap bulk pack ammo.

I tossed a cheap TruGlo red dot on it while waiting for my iron sights and it's so fun I am in no rush to throw on the irons.
Just shooting from the shoulder at pop cans 100 yards across the river I was able make the can jump with every trigger pull.

I have probably 2500 rounds through mine and haven't cleaned it. Have had 3 FTF and all have been with Remington Golden Bullets pulling the trigger as quick as I could.
