I was at a local gun store to day and took a long look at a Sig 556 Swat Classic it had the barrel rear sight like the HKs quad rail and they had a forward grip with light laser for a extra $190. The gun it's self was on sale for 1899 or in that naborhood eny way. So what's your thoughts on this for a "os" gun, vs like a AR style gun be it gas or piston. I seen the new ARC online but they are around 3000 is what the guy at the gun shop told me there going to hit his store this summer he has a lot on order is what he said eny way.

if its the sig with the quad rail I'd go for it. that seems to be about the same price as budsgunshop.com (which you should check out if you haven't). But if its the plastic handguard forget it. They break pretty easily and Sig doesn't like to sell quad rails to customers (so I've heard). They're pretty much a modified ak action that is a lot more accurate.

Go for the sig over ar15, but thats just my opinion.

I have a 556 SWAT and love it. Very reliable, runs a longer time between needing cleanings versus a DI AR, has a very good diopter sight that will cowitness with many red dot sights out there (Nikon Monarch on mine) so you don't have to mess with fold down backup sights, and it is very solid. I wish I could afford another one in the DMR version.

The Sig takes standard AR mags, too, even though it's not an AR. I like the Magpul mags. It is a bit heavier than a standard AR, but that hasn't bothered me. Mine also has the side folding stock, which can make it easier to carry in a pack or something if need be.

Fantastic rifles, huge fan. I'm not a fan of the quad rail, I prefer a lighter rifle so I like the Swiss handguards. But to each their own.

Not even close!

The plastic will hold up, and has been for the Swiss military for quite sometime now...SIG will sell you the P-Rail front ends IF you have the coin for it, They are made by Troy Industries and Troy and several other manufactures offer the P-Rail forearm aftermarket.

As for that prickly forearm, I have both, and as many over at SIGforum.com have said, the P-Rail forearm makes for an even heavier and more unbalanced rifle... most folks have been selling the SWAT forearms and replacing them with the plastic ones, you may be able to get a good deal at the above mentioned website on a SWAT forearm.

The 3 P-Rails that can be purchased from several retailers and will allow you to mount all the swag a man could want on the classic, plastic forearm rifles. They simply bolt on with supplied bolts. The rail sets have two short and one, long tapered, unit for mounting whatever...the long tapered rail goes on the bottom and makes for a level plane in case you would like to mount a vertical grip.

The rifle is somewhat heavy but built fairly well. I still prefer an AR type rifle to the SIG 556 though. To each their own, the 556 has attributes which far surpass the AR and so vice versa. If I was on a breaching team, I would definitely want an AR, if a sandhog, either would do but the nod goes to the 556 being more robust and heavier.

Also I would bet the 556 exhibits less mechanical failures than an AR would...just my opinion. If the 556 had an non-reciprocating charging handle it would be nearly perfect, but....

I wasn't talking about the swiss military handguards, but the new "ar style" sig with the m4 type buttstock and that funky fore end. But like I said, its just what I've heard.
