Does anyone know if a magpul rear buis will work on a 556? If not, is their a byis that will?

Yes, it will work if you match it with a AR height front sight from Troy or Midwest Ind. the Magpul BUIS will be way to high to work with the Sig USA front.

The other option for a front sight is the MFI folding front blade. It's based on the Sig 552 front sight.

Personally, I don't like AR hight sights on a 556. Why buy a rifle with a low sight line and then put 3" high sights on it?

The main, and only, reason is because I don't care for the diopter sight it comes with. It is usable, and maybe I will just stick with it, but it is my one sore spot with this rifle.

I know I could avoid all this with optics, but I enjoy having that iron backup.

Does the Patrol SWAT have a continuous rail on top, or does it end where the barrel begins, leaving the front sight fixture at a different height than the receiver rail?
If it is continuous than any AR BUIS system should work.
If not, then briansmithwins and JustinJ have it right.

I just bought a 556 Classic, and I believe I am going to put wrap the diopter sight well and keep it in the grip, along with a small tool to attach it should the dot fail. I can use the dot looking through the diopter, but it is a tiny view. Mine also has a thin flip up rear sight that folds down into the rail. A little flimsy, but would work in an emergency. Does the Swat version have it? I can get a pic later tonight.

I bought one of the first SWATs. The quad rail has a seperate piece that makes up the top rail of the forend quad rail. It would not work for a flip up platform as there is far too much play but i believe the newer versions are more solid. Either way replacing the front sight with the desired height is a far better option although i agree that AR height sights are too high for the gun.

My swat has the little flimsy backup. I agree it is fine in a pinch. The only downside is it limits how far back you can mount an optic.

I do not know of a rear BUIS that would be low enough for the front sight as is. Perhaps someone could modify one to stop halfway up, or thereabouts, to match the front sight.

As soon as I looked at the diopter sight again it was obvious it would not fit in the grip. Oh well.

A couple of pics of the rear flip up "emergency" sight. It would work in a pinch.
