Illinois is finally getting CCW and my wife is settling in on this one, based mostly on looks...and also on name brand. I remember the 238 having some teething issues when first released. How are these doing? Any recalls? Is this a stake-your life model, or does it have bugs? We will wring it out of course, as each individual example is different, but I wanted to post on here in advance of purchasing one and see what experiences you guys have had with the 938.

Thanks,
Jon

My wife has carried a Sig P938 for roughly a year with no problems. We have put around 600 rounds through it without a single FTF or FTE. I am highly impressed with the firearm.

I love mine. It feels like a full size gun in my hand and a cell phone on my waist. The night sights rock!

Realistically, each gun is different. Yours could run 100%, or could have issues. Run a few hundred rounds through it then let us know how it goes.

When I got mine, I took it out straight away and put 50 rounds through it. Didn't break it down nor lube it. Used about 6 different types of ammo-ball and JHP. I had about 3-5 mishaps of various types.

Brought it home, broke it down, cleaned and lubed it properly. I've shot the heck out of it since and never another failure of any kind.

Accurate, reliable-love the thing!

Mine has bugs. Back to sig for the second time now. Failures to extract even after 1000+ rounds. Make sure yours has the "latest" extractor. I've HEARD that 2013 models have been fixed. But SIG won't admit any change or any problems.

1Kperday, . . . did you get your 938 back yet, and has the issue been resolved?

I took mine to the range, yesterday, and in the first magazine, I had THREE failures to extract. If it is going to be an issue, I'll have to send it back. If Sig isn't fixing them [depending on your review of your returned 938], I will have to dump it for something else.

Not yet. Send yours back IMO and ask them to make sure it's the latest extractor. They won't acknowledge that there is a "latest extractor" but make them put it in anyway. :)

It seems like I'm the only one out of all of my friends who doesn't carry a 938 (6 of them). A friend's wife used theirs during a pistol class and she had the FTE issue noted above (happened halfway through the class and seemed to sort itself out and was fine afterward). Not sure what the issue was. None of the others have had issues.

I'll admit that the young lady beat the rest of us in two accuracy competitions during the class, too. First was for group size, and the other was a walkback competition - she was still dinging steel at 50-ish yards.

I may do that. Is the return information on their sight?
I don't know, sorry. We went through our dealer. I'd call their customer service number. Several people on the sigforums have had good experiences with their customer service. Just don't let them tell you you're limp-wristing.

As I understand it, the issue is that early Sig 938s use some 238 parts. Sig is changing those for new 9mm specific parts.

Mine has over 1000 rounds through it, never an issue. After an initial field strip and cleaning, I put over 600 rounds through without cleaning. Ran flawless.

Hmmmm. . . because I'm not the original owner, they said I would be charged ~$55 for shipping and $50 for the work. :scrutiny:

Makes you appreciate those companies that will fix their issues on their dime.

I guess I'm gonna dump this at the local gunstore and get something else.

I know a guy with one. In the first 100 or 150 rounds fired there was an occasional FTF. Since then it has been 100%. As mentioned before the night sights are great.

EDIT: I think that he switched to some hotter ammo and that helped clear up his problem. I think that the recoil spring needed time to break in.

Mine has been flawless so far. Very easy to conceal. I read somewhere that sig advises to change the recoil spring after 1500 rds. Ive also read of people putting over 3000 rds thru their 938 without problems. I am only at about 600 using mostly124grain ammo. I have also shot 135, 115, and 147grain without a problem. Sig recommends 124grain, so that's what I use. Cocked and locked at my 4oclock most of the time. I haven't had any problem with the safety disengaging. Get the 7rd mag so your pinky doesn't hang off. All steel, and the night sights are awesome. Wish I had them on all of my guns.

The guy from Sig customer services said [when I mentioned using WWB] that "the 938 has issues with this particular round, and to try something else."

Now, . . . I'm not sure how that could be really true. Is the 115gr WWB made where they WOULD be more apt to not be extracted? I just don't see how that type of failure [casing about 1/3 of the way out of the chamber, next round forced up underneath it] could be caused by it BEING WWB. :scrutiny:

What teething issues??? Don't understand what the hassle is with the 938:confused:. Mine's been flawless since last fall. I'm sure a couple can fall thru the cracks with issues, but the design seems to be proven AFAIC.

Gotta say, I have found mine to be bullet-proof in function and extremely accurate for my purposes. Given my age and eyes, that means I can group a magazine-full in 6-7" at 25yds. all day long. My Extreme has great night sights to boot. I used to carry an Officers model 1911 in 456ACP, but this little jewel is half that weight and really does it for me.

I took the P938 back out to the range this morning. Sacrificed a box [50] of Fiocchi 124gr truncated and 7 rounds of my carry round of choice. No issues with any of them.

Still, . . . as I stated in another thread I started about a possible new carry gun from CZ, . . . if one is released, I will be trading this Sig for it. It's a very nice carry gun, and quite concealable, but I've turned into a CZ guy, so it will go eventually.
