The last time I bought a new gun, (last month), I asked for input on a tack driving .22 semi auto for about $500. I got lots of input and based on that I got a MK III target hunter and love it.
Now I'm in the market for a home defense semi auto, only in .40 cal, just to keep it simple. My carry gun is a Glock 27 with trijicon sights and I will continue to carry it til I find one better because it shoots straight, fits my hand only so-so and I can conceal it with no problems, but MOST of all, I trust it. I plan to put a crimson trace laser on the new gun and I'm not overly concerned about concealing this one, just want a very accurate, quality pistol because, oh hell, you understand, I just want to buy another gun. I see all the CZ, and Sig loyalists and that tells me they must be great pistols. What makes them great? Why is your choice the right choice? I know lots depends on personal preference, but but with so many satisfied customers of these brands, I bet I'd like them too. Thanks in advance.

They're actually all perfectly good guns.

You should simply get the one you like the most. Go fondle some guns and pick one out.

or

You should go buy a CZ because that's what I own and it would validate me and puff up my self esteem. Yeah, go get a CZ because they're the bestest pistols ever. I wouldn't own them otherwise.

For a home defense gun, you can't go wrong with any of those three. They are all quality made guns that will out last you.

Like I tell anybody who asks "which gun should I get", shoot all three and pick the one that fits you and your budget the best.

I love beretta 92s. But I think I'd be a little bit nervous about a 92/96 shooting 40 cal...unless it was a brigadier style slide and a steel frame. Berettas were designed for the 9mm, not the 40.

Try a Ruger

My wife and I just shot our newest. Ruger P95 BNIB. Seven yards out. She had NEVER shot before. Her first shot was just over Johnny Lawbreaker's left ear, about 2 inches wide. Every other shot was right in the meat, center mass, three 7's, five 8's, five 9's, four 10's, even two X's. BTW, before this, SHE NEVER SHOT A GUN IN HER LIFE! I think I better behave! :what:

I have owned Berett'a and CZ's.

The Beretta's are made a bit better with more machined parts than the CZ. You only notice this, when you take them apart and look inside, not obvious from the outside.

The Beretta groups abit tighter from a rest on 2 reviews I have read on line than the CZ. But in the hand, you cannot tell it.

Where the CZ shines IMO, is the all steel frame, and grip. The Beretta is just too large for a 9mm, it feels like a double stack .45 Para IMO.

Also, many like the cocked and locked ability of the CZ over the Beretta.

Also consider a Glock 34, they are great also.

For a house gun, I see some comparison with the guns used in USPSA competition minus some bells and whistles.
Capacity, speed, accuracy and reliability.
I think you'll find more CZs than Berettas in this group.
The SP01 is just one example. Cz also gives you a lot of trigger choices to suit your preferences.

P.S. I shot my 9mm (light load 124gr) CZ75B at 50 yards last weekend and was pleasantly surprised. I held a little high thinking it would drop.
Wrong, I shot a little high. With fiber optic sights, combat stance and a round every 2-3 seconds they were all center mass.

Old Navy,

I'm not an expert, just been shooting about 40 years, from BB guns on up. I had a Sig P226, excellent accuracy, reliable, and a very ergonomic grip for me. Sold it.

Beretta 92 I bought new was finished beatifully, was very smooth in operation, accurate, and very reliable. Sold it.

Bought a used CZ-75 cheap, LNIB for $350.00. I now have 5, CZ's, haven't sold a single one, and doubt I will.

If you want a 40, and you want a CZ, may I suggest the 40B. I bought one new from CDNN for $289.00 plus $20.00 for shipping. I also bought a spare mag, but it's still in the wrapper. Installed the CZ comp hammer and wolf 15# mainspring.

Holy Moly. 500 rounds later, not a single hiccup, accurate, smooth, great sights, fantastic grip ergos.

Did I mention it was $289.00 plus shipping??

I have owned 2 Beretta Model 96 pistols (one blue and one inox) for 10 years, and have put a lot of ammo through both of them. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, and - yet again - wonderful guns. Perfect ergonomics (for me, there's something a little heart-racing about the way a Beretta feels in my hand), very accurate, No worries at all about holding up to the .40 caliber.

Here's a thought: At $289 for a CZ and sub $500 for a Beretta, if you shop around, you could have both for the price of a Sig...+ another $100...maybe. Nothing wrong with a Sig, but I would rather have 2 nice guns.
